3. Working in teams for peace Community Liaison Team This team are the eyes and ears of MAG. They talk to local communities across the world to find out where the problem is. Mine Action Team These teams clear former conflict zones, making the land safe for local populations. Teams are made up of: deminers, medical workers, technical advisors and managers. Risk Education Team In Iraq, MAG staff works with local teachers and village leaders as a team to educate local communities about the dangers of unexploded ordnance. Peace Building MAG aims to build peace by working with other charities, NGOs and governments who together help to increase stability in a country and assist them in building their own capacity to help themselves. Staff at the headquarters The staff at HQ work in a team to make sure that all programs across the world are happy and working well. They also work to raise awareness and money to keep the charity going.

8. Your task! The Trust Walk! In your teams take it in turns to be the navigator (guide). The rest of the team are to be blindfolded. Slowly spin the first team member around a few times so that they do not know which direction they are headed. From this point on, the guide should not touch the team member at all, you will have to rely on the guides directions. (e.g. “About five steps ahead, there is a branch. Step over it slowly.”) The guide is solely responsible for the team members’ safety. He or she should be navigated to avoid obstacles. Once the guide has successfully got a team member to the end of the trail, he/she should swap with the successful team member so that all can get a go! The first team to get all members round the trail, with no accidents, wins! N.B. if you fall over, you have to start again!!!

9. Your task! Photo Scavenger Hunt! Your teacher will give you a list with 10 different items on it. In your teams you must go around school finding these items. Once found, you must take a photo of all team members and that item. You only have 20 minutes to find all 10! Good luck!!! When you return to lesson, we will present all the groups’ findings as evidence!

10. Your task! The Great Egg Drop! Each group will be given several items, (e.g. 5-20 straws, a roll of masking tape, one fresh egg, newspaper, etc.). You will have 20 minutes to complete building a structure, with the egg inside. When time expires, your teacher will collect in each structure and drop them from at least 10 feet in elevation and then we will inspect to see if the eggs have survived. The winners are the groups that were successful in protecting the egg.

11. Plenary Questions What do you think is the purpose of this team building activity? What was it like to be responsible for your teammates’ success as well as your own? Did you have any difficulty trusting your team? Why or why not? Why is trust in your teammates important? How did it feel when you and your teammate successfully accomplished something challenging? How does this relate to the work of MAG? Why is teamwork crucial to their work?
