2. Brief History of Association Viet Nam Association of Architects (VAA) was established in 1948. Office Bearers The 9 th National Congress of VAA was held in April of 2015 in Ha Noi which elected 98 members for the Executive Committee.

3. Ar. Nguyen Tan Van is re-elected as President of VAA. 4 Vice Presidents: Ar. Nguyen Quoc Thong and Nguyen Van Hai in Hanoi; Ar. Khuong Van Muoi in Ho Chi Minh city and Ar. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan in Da Nang Members VAA has about 4,800 members to June, 2015. Financial Resources - Membership fees - Incomes from activities such as consultation, research on application of science, technology, practicing, services and contributions from other companies and institutes belong to the association. - Funds from other sponsors.

4. Chapters/ branches VAA comprises 59 Chapters in provinces/ cities and 26 Association's Branches in major agencies. National Congress of Vietnamese Architects is held every term of 5 years. General meeting of the VAA’s Executive Committee is held every year. Standing Committee Meeting is held twice per year. International Affiliations VAA is an official member of UIA, Regional UIA and ARCASIA. Beside, VAA has signed the MOU with other foreign organizations such as Architectural Institute of Korea (AIK), Korean Gyeong-gi Institute of Registered Architects (KGIRA), Association of Laos Architects and Civil Engineers (ALACE), Cuban Association of Architects, Genova Association of Architects, Urban Planners, Landscape Researchers and Conservationists and KIRA…

7. Major programs and activities in 2015 Architecture Education VAA collaborated with Ministry of Construction, Viet Nam Federation of Civil Engineering Association to organize Loa Thanh Awards 2015 for the excellence civil engineer and architecture student’s graduate projects.

Major programs and activities in 2015 CPD Program VAA provides courses for knowledge and professional skill improvements for architects some cities and provinces, specifically on: + Trends of contemporary architecture & urban planning in the world and Vietnam; + Training on Green Building and Energy Simulation

Major programs and activities in 2015 Social Responsibility -The architecture exhibition held in April to celebrate Viet Nam Architecture Day on April 27. - Exhibition on Residential Architecture and Ceremony to Award Viet Nam Residential Architecture 2015 in November. -Launching the “House vision” project to looking for the ideas of future housing. - Contribute the design of temporary house for Nepal after earthquake.

Social Responsibility - VAA encourages our member sections all over the country to celeberate the Architecture Day 2015 with series of activities such as workshop, exhibition, competition on the theme ”Architecture, Building, Climate – Commitments and solutions”. The main event takes place in Da Nang city on Oct 4 th, 2015.

12. Major programs and activities in 2015 Green Architecture - Seminar on Improving and concretizing the Criterias of Viet Nam Green Architecture. - Orginizing the 3 rd Viet Nam Green Architecture Awards. - Launching SPEC go Green Award 2015 for architecture students from 3 rd to 5 th year and young architects. The participant will send their best green architecture project to VAA to compete for the 2 nd SPEC go Green Award.

Major programs and activities in 2015 Young Architects’ activities Viet Nam Young architects Festival 2015 is organized from Mar 26-28 in Thanh Hoa province with 700 young architects from cities and provinces throught the country. The festival program inludes a forum on “Architecture and Creative Evolution”, visiting ancient monuments and other ebullient activities…

Major programs and activities in 2015 Professional Practice - Viet Nam is recently in the crisis of real estate, so it effects most of professional practice activities in construction and architecture industry. - Viet Nam still lacks of the Architects Act to executive the architecture professional practice properly and improve the quality of architecture works. Therefore, VAA has cooperated closely with the Ministry of Construction to compile the draft of Architects Act and try to submit the draft to the National Assembly in the term of 2015-2020 to verify and approve.

15. Major programs and activities in 2015 Professional Practice - Conference on “Architects – Authors and Works” in April. - Workshop on “Professional Practice and International integration” in December.

Major programs and activities in 2015 Competitions and Awards - VAA celeberate the 20 years Anniversary of National Architecture Prizes and awarded the 11 th National Architecture Prizes in April 2015, in occasion of Viet Nam Architecture Day April 27, as well as the 9 th VAA National Congress 2015.

17. Major programs and activities in 2015 Competitions and Awards - The annual Loa Thanh Awards for the excellent graduate projects students in Architecture and Construction. The award ceremony will be held in Dec 2015 in Hanoi.

Major programs and activities in 2015 Competition and Award -VAA is launching a competition to select the best Viet Nam Residential Architecture 2015 and awarded in Nov 03. -VAA is also organizing the other national and international competitions for the important projects and monuments in cities and provinces.

19. Major programs and activities in 2015 International Awards -Farming Kindergarten of Vo Trong Nghia Architects wins Building of the Year 2015 of Archdaily. -Naman Retreat Pure SPA of Ar. Nguyen Hoang Manh, MIA Design wins 2nd Place Best Implement project in the field of landscape architecture of Baku International Architecture Award.

20. Major programs and activities in 2015 International Awards -Cam Thanh Community House of 1+1>2 International Architecture JSC wins Prize of Civic and Community – Completed projects at WAF 2015. -Saigon House of a21 Studio wins Prize of House – Completed projects at WAF 2015.

Future Plans -Continuing cooperate closely to the Ministry of Construction to submit the draft of Architects Act to the National Assembly in the term of 2015 - 2020. -Promoting the Architectural Research Network and Architects Training Club to improve the quality of researching projects, architect training method and programs, carrying out of continuous training, strengthening the practicing skill of architects… -Promoting the green and sustainable architecture in the relationship between modern architecture and traditional culture preservation, confronting challenges of globalization and climate change. -Studying project on contemporary housing architecture, especially on rural housing, housing for flood areas and for low-income earners.

22. Future Plans -Enhancement of social consultation, criticism and reviewing role of the Association of Architects for the central and local government in architecture, urban management and development. -Enhancement of cross border internship for 5-year students.
