2 What is Unemployment Insurance? Temporary Assistance paid through an employer paid tax. Paid into a fund to provide Unemployment Benefits to those workers who have been unemployed through no fault of their own. It is a tax based upon the first $9000 of a workers earnings. It is to help laid off workers while looking for another job. Unemployment Insurance is not a welfare program.

3 Texas Unemployment Insurance Weekly Benefits Maximum $479 (based on 47K Annual Income) Current Average $259 Minimum $65 UI Benefits are taxable under federal law. You may choose to have taxes subtracted from UI Payments at a rate of 10%. You will receive a 1099G form at the end of the year.

4 How to Qualify for UI Benefits? Worked enough time in your last five quarters of work. 6 When will I receive my first UI payment? Payments/Debit Card You will receive your first payment in approximately 4 weeks after initial claim is filed. Second payment will be received two weeks later and will be for 2 weeks of unemployment benefits. If there are no earnings, wages in lieu of notice the waiting week will be released after all UI benefits are exhausted or the claimant returns to work full time.

10 Questions You Will Be Asked When Requesting Payment Questions that may be asked when you: Are you requesting payment for the first time or Have special circumstances (such as receiving a retirement pension, attending school or training, etc) 1. Did you work during the two-week claim period? 1. If “Yes,” enter hours worked and total gross earnings for each week-not your net (after tax) take-home pay. 2. If you worked, are you still working for this employer or are you scheduled to return to work for this employer?

Report earnings, when earned, from full-time, part-time, or temporary work, contract labor, commission, tips, and self-employment profits. Failure to report earnings could be considered fraud. 2.
