2 What is a society? Society-A group of people who have developed patterns of relationships from being around one another. *These people often live in a community. Family is the basic unit that makes up society. Society can be seen at many levels: o Your family may live in a neighborhood, a type of small society. o The city or state you live in is a larger level of society. o Your school is a type of society. 3 How does family impact society? Strong families contribute to strong communities. Children raised in a loving family are more likely to become caring adults. Children who learn peaceful conflict resolution will use those techniques to help solve community problems.

4 How does society impact family? 1. Family Law Laws that deal with taxes and interest rates influence how much money families have to spend. Laws are passed to help people who are poor, out of work, or need help. Local, state, and national laws affect the education of children. Laws set up rules for marriage and divorce. * Laws affect people and people affect laws. Public pressure can change and create laws; i.e. Amber Alert. 1. Religious groups work to support families Schools help young people establish their futures; working people in the community pay taxes to help support the schools.
