What is Voltage Optimisation? Voltage optimisation is a generic term given to the managed reduction of voltages received from a supplier down to a value that more closely meets the designed rating for all your electrical appliances. Electrical appliances manufactured for the UK and Europe are rated at 230V, reducing the voltage towards this level can lead to; Lower energy consumption Reduced carbon emissions Extended lifespan of electrical equipment Lower operating temperatures

Meters charge us for kW/h used. An appliance at 2400 watts and at 240 volts will use 10 amps of current. Watts=Volts x Current, so by using Ohms law V/I x R, the resistance would be 24 ohms. Current is proportional to Voltage, so at 220 volts, resistance is fixed at 24 ohms so current is 220/24 = 9.2amps. Power consumed is now: 220 x 9.2 = 2024 watts, a saving of 376 watts * Calculations based on Voltage Dependant Loads for ease of explanation

What equipment benefits most from voltage optimisation? Lighting SON – Metal Halide – Fluorescent Tubes – Tungsten – Halogen None Thermostatically Controlled Heating Towel Rails – Hand driers – Hair Driers – Over Door Heaters (Air Curtains) – Electric Showers Fixed Speed Motors Refrigeration – Air Conditioning – Pumps – Fans White Goods Microwaves – Fridges – Freezers – Washing Machines - Dishwashers

Equipment Protection Voltage Optimisation ensures electrical appliances operate closer to their optimum design condition, this can help prevent excessive heat build up often caused by over voltage. Therefore, protects electrical goods from premature failure often cased by over voltage. Including: Resistive Heating Elements ( Kettles, Immersion Heaters, Thermostatically Controlled Space Heating) High Frequency Lighting LED Laptops Computers Phone chargers

Who will benefit most from Voltage Optimisation? All sites are different and must be assessed for their suitability before installing a Voltage Optimiser. However typical high electricity users with suitable equipment are : Domestic Households Convenience Stores Garage Forecourts Pubs, Hotels & Restaurants Retail Offices Care Homes Dentists Vets GP’s Surgeries Gyms Spas Hairdressers Laundrettes

Why ? Matt:e Ltd are a UK manufacturer of Voltage Optimisation Units.

Product Features Toroidal type transformers manufactured by matt:e Ltd. These transformers are more efficient and run cooler than in-efficient laminated type transformers. No moving parts. Fans, contactors or relays Light weight and compact with simple wire in wire out connection allows for ease of installation. 8 hour continuous operation fully rated transformers Product range from 60 amp single phase through to 400 amp three phase units All models with Over Current and Over Temperature Protection as Standard Under voltage protection (intelligent units only) Direct PV connection (PV connect units only) Designed and manufactured in the UK

All matt:e units are very simple to install with simple wire in wire out connections on all models. Saving on time and costs during installation. B60 Single Phase B100 Three Phase Simple Installation

Robust design. Built to last. All matt:e products have a standard 5 years parts warranty All matt:e Voltage Optimisers are designed to cope with 100% of the load 100% of the time. Without any moving parts or delicate switch gear, matt:e voltage optimisers are built to last, with a life expectancy of 25 years. Giving total peace of mind and ensuring the maximum return on your investment

Get more usable power form your PV installation Solar PV systems have to increase the supplied voltage to enable them to export their generated electricity back onto the National Grid, inevitably the voltage into your property will also increase. Installing a voltage optimiser alongside your PV system prevents this precious generated energy from being wasted due to inefficiencies caused by over voltage at appliances. Potentially leaving more of the “Free energy” available for use around the property helping to speed up the return on investment. An example, if you are generating 3kW of power from your Solar PV System, a 3kW kettle operating at 250V will consume additional 250W. This is additional power that you will have to buy from the grid, by optimising the voltage your kettle could be boiled from the power generated by your Solar System.

Three Phase Voltage Optimsers As all site and applications are different matt:e designs and builds the Three phase voltage optimisers to suit your exact requirements. From 60amp through to 400 amp per phase with fixed voltage reduction of 10V, 15V, 20V and 25V. Toroidal Transformers matt:e uses our own Toroidal type Transformer that is more efficient and runs cooler than in-efficient Laminated type transformers.

Remember … 220 is plenty. Most appliances are optimal at 220V You pay for over supply Typically 10 – 20% of annual billing as a saving (dependant on loads ) A quote from the electrical guide to the 17 th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671): 2008 and Part P of the Building Regulations by John Whitfield “ Since the present supply voltages on the UK lie within the acceptable spread of values, supply companies in the UK have not reduced their voltages from 240V. This is hardly surprising, because such action would immediately reduce the energy use by customers (and the income of the Companies) by more than 8%”
