2  What is spyware?  History of spyware.  What effect does spyware have on your computer?  What spreads spyware?

3  Type of malware.  Secretly collects personal information.  Can also have other negative effects on your computer.

4  Spyware first seen in 1995.  Spyware’s first use was for the practice of spying.  Since the year 2000, Spyware has taken on its current sense.  Microsoft based clients are biggest targets of Spyware.

5  There are more than one Spyware infections on a computer.  Spyware causes many technical problems on infected computer.  Spyware causes network problems on infected computer.

6  Spyware is installed on a person’s computer without them knowing.  Easily spread by tricking the user of that computer.  Spread through “Piggybacking.”  Spread also through false software installation.

7  Adware is a software that shows advertisements to the user of the computer.  Adware shows related advertisements based on the user’s internet history  Adware often becomes active when software is downloaded onto a computer with a type of Spyware program downloaded with it.

8  Spyware is neither a virus or a worm.  Spyware does exploit an infected computer for commercial gain.  Most common uses of spyware are advertising, identity theft, and monitoring of web activity for marketing purposes.

9  Spyware is a type of malware that secretly collects personal information and other private data.  Spyware is usually spread on a computer without the user knowing. It is downloaded onto a computer through deception.  Spyware monitors the user’s activity. It can be responsible for identity theft and other violations of privacy.
