4 Today’s Tasks Engineers You will: –T–Test materials, –D–Design a structure, and –S–Submit a proposal. So let’s test some materials…

5 Testing the Materials Materials. The goal is to test each one to see how much weight it can hold. Remember, the data you collect will help you design your structure later.

6 Taking our testing a step further With data collected we can find out how each material should act as we look past our testing limits. Find the line of best fit for our data to help us extend our testing beyond our budget. We can then use this information to determine how thicker materials should behave even though we didn’t test them.

7 Testing designs Now that we have some materials tested it is time to design our bridge. You may have more than one design. Remember after you have a design, cost will be considered. (It would be a good idea to have a back-up design.) Be sure your design meets the specifications.

8 Making a proposal You need to find the best cost for your materials. Put together your price list from the approved vendors and total up your proposal. Submit your proposal for review.
