Introduction  Titanic Voices of the Disaster was published by Scholastic Press in March 2012. It’s a nonfiction book by Deborah Hopkinson.

Facts about Titanic  Titanic was the largest ship in the world.  Titanic’s captain, Edward J. Smith was known as the “Millionaires captain.” So many upper classmen would only travel if he was captain.

Facts about Titanic  Titanic carried mail. R.M.S. stood for, “Royal Mail Ship.”  Titanic had many things to eat. Thousands of each thing.

People of Titanic  Thomas Andrews, the ship builder, was very generous. He didn’t order people around, he got to work.  Frank Brown, a passenger, got off on Titanic’s first stop because he received a letter. The letter told him to get off the ship. He did, saving his life.

Titanic  People were so excited to board Titanic. They were going to start a new life.  People thought Titanic was the “Unsinkable Ship.” They were wrong.

That Awful Day  On April 15 Titanic was sailing the Atlantic. It was just another normal day.  That night people were not prepared for what was surely to come.  As they were sailing the captain told his crew to watch for ice burgs.  As they were sailing a lookout spotted an ice burg off in the distance. It didn’t look very big at first, but as they got closer it got bigger.

Crash!  When Titanic got closer to the ice burg the captain tried to turn so he wouldn’t have a head-on collision, but it was too late.  The ice burg scraped the side of the ship. Right after water started pouring in the ship.  Workers tried to turn off the engines but it was too late.

Escape  As people were beginning to worry, the ship started to tilt forward.  Titanic had lifeboats, but there wasn’t enough for everyone.

Women and Children First!  The crew ordered women and children to escape first.  Many of the children were scared because they had to leave their fathers behind.

Rescued  People in lifeboats watched Titanic rise 250 feet in the air, then sink.  Men were jumping in the water and swimming as far away from the ship as they could.  The water was freezing.

Rescued  Finally, a ship came and rescued all the survivors from the Titanic.  The ship was called “Corpathia.”  Tuesday, April 16, the headline of the newspaper was “Titanic Sinks!”

My Thoughts  Titanic is still remembered every day. Scientists still study Titanic to find many more interesting things.

My Thoughts  I’ve enjoyed this book so much. It has taught me so much about Titanic that I never knew before.  This book is perfect for anyone who loves reading about history.
