eLF e-LearningFitness Project Coordinated by Sapienza University – Rome Project No. 511669-LLP-1-2010-1-IT-KA3-KA3MP-ELF 1/1/2011 – 31/12/2013 (36 months) Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) Lifelong Learning Programme, Sub-programme: KA3 ICT Call for proposals: DG EAC/41/09 - Action: Multilateral project Coordination of the Fitness Programme by FIAF Paolo A. Adami, President FIAF 23 rd TAFISA World Congress – Enschede, NL – October 23-27, 2013

Purpose and Deliverables This project proposes the creation of a system for e-learning and certification, based on EQF - the European Qualification Framework - in the fitness industry (physical activity and sport for health), culminating with the activation of Pilot National Registers for fitness instructors in a minimum of 14 European countries. A long term target is the improvement of the health ‑ hence quality of life ‑ for all, not only those involved in fitness activities but almost everybody, as long as the activities are led by qualified instructors, capable of paying attention to individual needs. The main objectives of the eLF project/network are: 1.to create a European training system for e-learning in fitness for health activities, using the European minimum standards for both the theory (knowledge) and the practical skills and competencies of the instructors. 2.to create a platform for an interactive pilot national professional register which will collaborate and interact with other existing international registers (EREPs and ICREPS). The e-learning courses and registers will be translated and operate in the languages of the project partners.

Membership 19 Full Partners

Membership 91 Associate Partners

REGISTERS FOR FITNESS INSTRUCTORS DELIVERABLE: to create a platform for an interactive pilot national professional register which will collaborate with other existing international registers such the EREPs and the ICREPS. The pilot national register is being developed based on the UK-Reps (eLF partner), and will be localized and translated into each national language of the participating nations. All participants who successfully complete the e-learning training programs will be eligible to join the pilot national register of their country. These pilot registers will communicate among themselves and with other existing registers outside of Europe through ICREPS (eLF associate partner). CYQ, eLF partner, will perform a quality check on all the eLF Programmes to ensure that they meet the EHFA Standards and therefore be able to endorse the programmes. eLF qualified instructors should/will be invited to register on EREPS, if they choose to do so. It will be up to the individual partners/nations to ensure that the pilot register is recognized/accredited by the appropriate national authorities and is managed in a transparent manner.

Courses offered All the eLF courses have been developed and are based on the EHFA Standards. EQF Level 3: – Group Fitness Instructor Aerobics and Muscle Conditioning – AquaFitness Instructor – Fitness Instructor EQF Level 4: – Personal Trainer

Who are the eLF students? New instructors – Persons with practical experience such as practitioners in a gym or sport club, who would like to learn to teach and become qualified instructors Experienced but unqualified instructors – Instructors who are teaching but have never undergone an evaluation process and therefore have no “formal” qualification and certification Qualified instructors in one fitness specialty that would like to become qualified in another fitness activity – Persons who are teaching in one field of fitness that would like to expand either horizontally or vertically to another aspect of fitness to increase their employment potentials

eLF Programmes Are made up of Modules: – Core Knowledge – All participants must complete – EQF Level 3 Programmes – Participants choose one specialty: Group Fitness Instructor AquaFitness Instructor Fitness Instructor (this is a prerequisite to enter EQF Level 4 - Personal Trainer.) – EQF Level 4 Programme Personal Trainer (only those who first complete the EQF Level 3 course for Fitness Instructor)

eLF & Sports Club x Health While most sport disciplines are monothematic and have their own specificity that cannot be used or applied in any other sport discipline (let’s say that they are vertical and there is no overlapping or interconnection among them), fitness is very horizontal and constitutes the basis for the practice of any sport activity. Fitness is the base on which all sport disciplines are built. Unless the person is FIT, he cannot participate in any sport activity safely and successfully, even at an amateur level. Currently, surveys in most countries show that there is a great inadequacy between the offer and the demand for professional skills in the Sport for Health activities, facilitating the recruitment of incompetent staff with great risk for the health and safety of the practitioners.

eLF & Sports Club x Health The eLF "Core Knowledge" module, preliminary part of each specific course, is particularly indicated for the basic training of the SCxH instructors, using it as a common basis of education and knowledge, before starting, or completing, the training in the specific practical programs pertaining to the various and different sport disciplines and activities. Through the eLF e-learning training platform, the Sports for All organizations and the SCxH facilities / operators / instructors, will be able to adopt and use a modern, easy and economic system to educate, test, verify and evaluate the professional knowledge, skills and competences of the future “sport for health” trainers. This system, which is necessary for their professional enhancement and for the satisfaction and safeguard of the practitioners, would be available at a very low cost.

eLF & Sports Club x Health The use of the eLF system by the Sports Clubs x Health and the Sports for All operators/providers will contribute to the creation of the strong “critical mass” necessary to facilitate the growth and expansion of the Health Enhancing sport and physical activity sector in Europe and worldwide. The eLF project will guarantee the efficacy of the training programs and the transparency of a system that will give the sport community credibility and legitimacy through: - the consistency and sustainability of an e-learning platform based on the EQF (European Qualification Framework); - the functionality and transparency of the following processes and procedures: assessment, validation and certification of the knowledge, competence and skills of the students after the conclusion of the e-learning training courses.
