5 Core Trainees To develop essential skills for trainees at CT1-2, we offer a range of courses held at centres throughout the UK including Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS ® ) Provider Programme Basic Surgical Skills (Intercollegiate BSS) Course Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP ® ) Core Skills in Laparoscopic Surgery 5

7 Professional development Training the Trainers: Developing Teaching Skills This course aims to meet the changing needs of surgical educators and to incorporate the latest developments in education Training and Assessment in the Clinical Environment (TrACE) Mapped against all of the seven areas of competency as outlined in the GMC Standards for the Recognition and Approval of Trainers, TrACE provides Consultants with the required formal recognition as a clinical and educational supervisor. Educational Leadership Programme for Surgeons Recommended by the RCS for all Surgical Tutors and Training Programme Directors, providing them with the skills to support all trainees and consultants in their Trust 7

9 Surgical Training for Austere Environments Five-day practical workshop providing surgeons with an understanding of decision-making strategies effective in a humanitarian crisis Management of trauma of the limbs, head, thorax and torso Management of orthopaedic fractures Effective decision-making in obstetric emergencies including caesarean section ST4-8, consultants and SAS Grades 22-26 February 2016 Early booking fee of £2,000 (expires 30 November 2015) 9

10 PG Cert in Surgery The PG Cert in Surgery is aimed at foundation and core trainees interested in pursuing a career in surgery, offering an innovative and interactive e-learning programme tailored to provide support and preparation for the MRCS exam and ST selection. The PG Cert in Surgery is comprised of a range of modules covering surgical specialties and other relevant topics including Breast surgery consent & ethics trauma & orthopaedics research methodology You can complete the PG Cert completely online or attend relevant RCS courses 10
