3 2. Upload travel proposal as a pdf. Save the file as: YourLastName_FirstName92015 Page 1: Travel Scholarship Application Form Page 2: A one-page résumé summarizing your qualifications Page 3: A project description of no more than two pages

4 Project Descriptions Include the overall goals of your research Hypothesis and/or research questions

5 Include your destination(s) and timeline for the travel and completion of the research project: Specific cites you will be visiting A description of the sites An explanation of why you will focus on these sites The goals for the travel portion of the research: How will your proposed itinerary help answer your research questions? Why is travel a necessary part of your research?

6 Include the methods you will use to conduct your research The overall importance of the project and how it will benefit your academic career Examples: contribute to thesis research, professional report, a master’s design project

7 Work with a faculty member Give your proposal to the professor two weeks before it is due Ask the professor to review your methods and research questions Ask the professor to review your justification and why it is necessary to conduct your research

8 Include detailed travel costs The specific amount requested from SOA and your individual contribution

12 Travel Scholarship Endowments Mike and Maxine K. Mebane Endowed Traveling Scholarship Undergraduate and graduate Student support for study abroad programs and academic or research travel.

13 Travel Scholarship Endowments William H. Emis III Traveling Scholarship in Architecture Undergraduate and graduate To provide support to students in the School of Architecture for study travel in Europe or Asia.

14 Travel Scholarship Endowments Blake Alexander Traveling Student Fellowship in Architecture Graduate To support an annual travel award for a student in the last year of the School of Architecture First Professional Degree Program who has demonstrated high academic achievement.

15 Travel Scholarship Endowments Veselka Graduate Research Travel Endowment Graduate Graduate fellowships to be awarded annually, based on merit, for travel expenses related to preparation of a thesis or dissertation.

16 Travel Scholarship Endowments Dick Clark Student Travel Fund Undergraduate and graduate Funds shall be used to provide international travel support to students in the Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture (First Professional and Post- Professional) programs. Support should be based on the following criteria (in order of importance): 1) Demonstrated financial need and 2) Demonstrated excellence in architectural design.

17 Travel Scholarship Endowments Leipziger Travel Fellowship Fund Fifth-year undergraduate or graduate The funds shall be used, at the discretion of the dean of the School of Architecture, to allow fifth year or graduate students in the School of Architecture, individually or in groups, to travel to and in Europe to study environmental design or urban design for course credit in the School of Architecture or for the purpose of writing a thesis in connection with a degree from the School of Architecture.

18 Travel Scholarship Endowments SOA Domestic Travel Scholarship Fund Undergraduate or graduate Undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Architecture seeking research and education opportunities through travel within the U.S.

19 Recipient Instructions In order to receive your scholarship funds you must: 1.Submit the Travel Scholarship Acceptance Form 2.Submit proof of Study Abroad travel authorization (International travel only) 3.Submit proof of travel 4.Thank-you Letter* 5.Image Donations to VRC Full instructions available online

20 Please Note: Students awarded Mebane scholarship funds as part of an admissions recruitment offer must submit a proposal for review through this application process. Travel scholarships may be applied to international travel that has already occurred. In no case will student travel awards be disbursed and/or may travel occur after a student's graduation
