WP2 Analysis and organisation training material Danny Vandenbroucke SADL/KU Leuven

2 Objectives WP2 INSPIRE processes as starting point Analysis of existing modules Adaptation to the modules of Leuven Learning paths Methods, IPR,... Adaptation plan Outline

3 Objectives WP2 Analyse the available training material in the light of the identified needs of project beneficiaries. Assessing how to better tune it to specific national and sectoral needs, also in terms of methodology and didactic approach. IPR issues will be considered, to be fixed with ad-hoc agreements for future exploitation, whenever needed. Expected results are the definition of optimal learning path for the target users and the planning of specific activities, criteria and standards for tailoring the available training material, methodology and infrastructure

4 T1.1 – Analysis training material – Starting from the modules: fine-tune and capturing local needs T1.2 – Definition learning paths – Based on T1.1 (and the defined INSPIRE processes) T1.3 – Development adaptation plan – Structure, layout, media suggested and didactic methodology  In practice, T1.1 started from the metadata Objectives WP2

5 Business Processes of INSPIRE – Based on the experience of smeSpire BP1 - Monitoring and Reporting BP2 - Data & Service Sharing BP3 - Metadata modeling, transformation, validation BP4 - Data modeling, transformation and validation BP5 - Network Services configuration and deployment  Need to simplify and streamline this  Above are rather the 5 main chapters of the Directive, not the processes INSPIRE processes

Data specifications Feature catalogues Application schemas Code lists CRS Results conformity testing Spatial object identifier namespaces Thesauri 3 TIER Architecture Application Tier Service Tier Data Tier INSPIRE processes

7  More precise BPMN scheme to be prepared INSPIRE processes Test Produce Transform Publish Deploy Access Bind and use Manage and monitor

8 Business Processes of INSPIRE – Revised BP1 – Transforming data and metadata BP2 – Creating and managing access mechanisms BP3 – Access, bind and use of spatial data (through services) BP4 – Managing and reporting INSPIRE implementation  Most if not all existing modules fit well  These processes are important  For students to understand the overall picture  For us to structure the modules (curriculum) INSPIRE processes

10 Structure and content – Observations Almost all modules are focussing on the development of the infrastructure – Many overlapping / similar topics Need for one or more modules targetting ‘end-users’ of the infrastructure? – E.g. How to use services in a desktop application, a use case developed More modules to support management and monitoring of INSPIRE implementation? – E.g. Data and service sharing, link with other Directives Analysis

11 Structure and content – Cluster of modules on data harmonisation / transformation Analysis Data Harmonisation Data Specifications Adv. Procedures for data and Metadata harmonisation Examples data transformation Geological Data harmonisation

12 Structure and content – Specific modules missing... E.g. UML and BPMN modelling techniques  Discussion based on the learning paths  Foreseen on Thursday morning Analysis

14 Method, materials and format – Observations Most modules rather following a ‘passive’ format – No webinars, no group work – What with interaction with tutor? Some modules without any audio / video – Just documents and PPT’s Expected work load – Not always clear whether work of the students is included  Provision of several methods and materials for the same modules ? Analysis

15 There are very good modules – They need to be better structured / organised ~ INSPIRE processes – They need to be ‘simplified’ avoiding overlaps – They need to be complemented with additional modules ~ end-users and foundational modules – They should be tailored to reflect local needs Some Italian versions Including Italian material (exercises, examples,...)  Best to adapt first a ‘European’ version Conclusions

16 Objectives WP2 INSPIRE processes as starting point Analysis of existing modules Adaptation to the modules of Leuven Learning paths Methods, IPR,... Adaptation plan Outline

17 Adaptation to modules KU Leuven Analysis modules

18 3 – Basics of INSPIRE Data Specs – Add part (intro/summary) of UML modelling (?) – Focus on the methodology the standards – Limit data transformation to a summary – Illustrate data specs, add examples of well known products E.g. EuroRegionaMap Analysis modules

19 4 – Basics of INSPIRE Network Services – Drop part on geoportal – The ‘strategy’ for deployment should be better developed – CSW part is underdeveloped Should this be in this module, or rather one module on geoportal, catalogue and CSW? – Nothing on transformation and invoking services Add summary on difference network and spatial data services Add a part on orchestration of services Analysis modules

20 5 – Introduction to INSPIRE – Should focus more on examples of the use of the infrastructure Demo’s using services in an application (e.g. Q-GIS) – Part on the implementing rules is too detailed – Part on conformity of data and services is too detailed – Part on M&R should maybe be integrated in a module on management of the INSPIRE process Analysis modules

21 8 – Data specification advanced – Title is misleading, its focus is on transformation – Should be integrated with the other modules on harmonisation (?) – Part on conformity testing is missing – Is it covering enough the metadata aspects Usage metadata of the data specs Analysis modules

22 9 – INSPIRE network services advanced – Is covering very well the three major types – Nothing about ATOM Feed: to add ? – What about other type of services At least mention them and show some examples Analysis modules

23 10 – INSPIRE advanced – Is now focusing on the non-technological aspects Integrate technological developments module semSpire Shorten the non-technological parts Analysis modules

24 19 – Introduction to Linked Data – Should become a good mix of publishing and usage of linked data Is the title the good one? – A second module with exercises should be developed Analysis modules

25 20 – Introduction to Sensor Web – No changes proposed so far... Analysis modules

26 Objectives WP2 INSPIRE processes as starting point Analysis of existing modules Adaptation to the modules of Leuven Summary of discussions of yesterday Learning paths Methods, IPR,... Adaptation plan Outline

27 How to define the learning paths? 1.Take into account the business processes and activities that should be covered... 2.Work from a more generic level towards a more detailed level (if necessary)... 3.Based on the definition of what someone should be able to know and do... 4.To be fine-tuned for each individual whan applied in practice... Learning paths

28 Going back to the 4 business processes BP1 – Transforming data and metadata BP2 – Creating and managing access mechanisms BP3 – Access, bind and use of spatial data (through services) BP4 – Managing and reporting INSPIRE implementation Job profiles INSPIRE Manager (BP4) INSPIRE Data Expert (BP1) INSPIRE Service Expert (BP2) INSPIRE Service Consumer (BP3) Learning paths

29 INSPIRE manager – Assumption 1: no knowledge on INSPIRE – Assumption 2: management and monitoring tasks are in the hands of this one person Learning paths 5 – IntroX - DSS 10 - Adv7 - Port 15 – N2K 16 – NC... 33 33 3 8 Minimum path (23)

30 INSPIRE data expert – Assumption 1: no knowledge on data modelling... – Assumption 2: data management tasks in hands of one person Learning paths 3 – Intro DS 3 – Intro DS 5 – Intro INSPIRE 1 - Harm 13 – Val 12 - Ex 6 – XML GML 11 - Proc... Minimum path (47) 33 16 3 3 3...

31 INSPIRE service expert – Assumption 1: no knowledge on SOA... – Assumption 2: service deployment tasks in hands of one person Learning paths 3 – Intro NS 3 – Intro NS 5 – Intro INSPIRE 14 - CSW 9 – Adv NS 6 – XML GML... Minimum path (41) 3316 3...

32 Variability in methods, formats, intensity,... – Efforts needed to guarantee the expected learning outcomes Is the intensity / workload for all modules enough to produce the outcomes ? – Add self learning time, add exercises,... – Provide a standard package PPT+audio or weblecture – Add webinars, video’s, exercise packages, documentation – Streamlining and professionalisation of the material Methods

33 Open issues... – What with interaction student – tutor? Interaction is time-consuming It also impacts some business models... – What with self-tests? Maybe we should add this in each module – IPR Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike License ?  Anders Methods

34 D4 – Learning path specifications Analysis of existing material: content and methods Learning paths and high level revision  First Draft by 28/02 D5 – Learning Material and Infrastructure Adaptation Plan New structure / schema – KU Leuven by 28/02 Adaptation per module: content – all: by ? Streamlining the method(s) – KU Leuven by 28/02 Organising the infrastructure – GISIG by ? Adaptation plan
