1 Los Angeles Unified School District Facilities Services Division Architecture & Engineering Internship Program Connecting LAUSD High School Students to Careers in Architecture, Engineering and Construction

2 ISEE Architecture & Engineering Program Mission: To engage, expose and challenge LAUSD high school youth to explore architecture, engineering and construction as career opportunities by capitalizing on the District’s ownership of the nation’s largest School Construction and Modernization Program.

3 Program goals Engage students in introduction to architecture, engineering and construction industries. Educate students on the spectrum of careers available to them within the building industries. Provide students the opportunity to gain transferable college-credit while in high school. Increase the diversity of students entering the design and building industries. Develop sustainable mentorship relationships with students. Facilitate student access to college architecture, engineering and construction management academic programs, and to available scholarship opportunities. Provide hands-on experience to make students capable and marketable prior to attending college. Connect eligible graduates of the high school internship program to the LAUSD Construction Management Intern Program.

4 iSEE Program 2008 ISEE Program Statistics 95 students actively participated in the iSEE Program ▫58 males (61%) and 37 females (39%) ▫54 juniors (56%), 36 seniors (37%) and 4 sophomores (3%) ▫These students represented 26 high schools in LAUSD and 21 cities including LA 70 students successfully completed the college course ▫42 males (60%), 28 females (40%) ▫43 juniors (61%), 24 seniors (34%) and 3 sophomores (4%)

5 Program Overview & Timeline Phase I Introduction to Computer-Aided Design – Course (January – June 2009) Sustainable Design – Revit – Course (January – June 2009) ▫Orientation (Saturday, January 10, 2009) Student Orientation to Industry—Monthly Meetings (February-June 2009) ▫Saturday Seminar Sessions 1-5 (9:00 am – 1:00 pm) Phase II Summer Internship Program (July-August 2009) ▫Part-time and Full-time internships ▫Salary: $8.00 to $10.00 per hour ▫Students must successfully complete Phase I to participate Intern Recognition Luncheon (July 2009) Eligibility Criteria ▫LAUSD High School Juniors & Seniors ▫Recent LAUSD High School Dropout ▫Submit iSEE Application & LATTC Applications ▫Submit Parent Permission Slip
