7 7 Vodafone expansion was fast, mergers of Airtouch (US) and then Mannesmann (Germany) doubled Vodafone twice in 2 years Vodafone globally needed financial governance and control quickly. UK region grew to be UK Middle East and Africa (MEA) Verizon Wireless, my CFO moved, needed different skill base for new focus USA time was up, UK based European role fitted skill base and development plan UK Regional role contracting, needed move for development Australia was great development and new opportunity How did I Get Here?

8 8 UK – Set up head office and merger and operational reporting Middle East and Africa – Safaricom (Kenya) start up and bond issue, loads of M&A work Verizon Wireless - GAAP comparison, efficient reporting, customer lifetime reporting, reengineered business sales process. Europe – sold interest in Proximus (Belgium) to major shareholder VF Australia – SoX compliance, new stats system, Crazy Johns purchase, first iPhone launch VHA – Set up merger commercial function, $3bn loan, Oracle integration, commence finance transformation What I’ve achieved

10 10 Visa status risks – can only work for one company or leave the country Family – setting up home and integration to new country is hard work, especially for those at home Home company may ‘forget’ you, ensure you keep up your network Things work differently abroad – don’t moan, get on with it Its expensive to move around, even if the company pay You are expensive, is it easier to train a local? Working abroad - Risks

11 11 Get to know who controls international moves for your company? TALK - Ask for a move, don’t just put it on appraisal documents, tell managers if you want to stay in new country Ensure you get development from the move Give the international company skills you have, which are rare locally, i.e. company can see why you and not a local candidate? Visa status, what risks / opportunities does that give you? Stay in contact with your home company, network is more important when your away Its hard to integrate, it takes time Take the opportunity Learnings – how to move abroad
