2 When was it Invented? The first drink (non-carbonated) to be ever marketed, probably appeared in the 17 th Century (1600-1700 AD), in France. In India too, a version of this drink, called Nimbu-Paani, had been in existence for a considerable length of time.

3 What need did the product addresses? At first it was mainly used for medical purposes. Pharmacists gave it to their patients as a remedies from some common illnesses, soon after they began to place “chemicals” in to add flavor to help it go down easier.

4 Who Invented It? The first man-made carbonated drink was made by Joseph Priestly in 1767, in his lab.

6 What materials were originally used to make this product? Pharmacists first used common water mixed with chemicals and herbs to produce the non-carbonated drink. Later, They began to make soda fountains capable of producing the drink faster. Joseph Priestly began testing the effects of carbon on the drink giving it a more refreshing taste.

7 How was the product originally made? Through carbonizing water giving it a sort of bubbly feel and texture without removing the water. However, before they though of carbonizing it was nothing more than boiling water mixed with lemon and a dash of honey among other things

8 What improvements were made? Improvements consisted of bottle design, an multitude of flavors, availability, productivity, quantity and overall make-up. Now offering hundreds of designs and flavors from original Pepsi to Jolly Rancher Blue Raspberry.

9 Why were these improvements made? The improvements were made to accompany the new usage. It went from a drink given to patients to help with illness to a drink now commonly found in every American household.

10 Who uses? As said before it was commonly used by patients of Pharmacists, then transformed into a drink given to the common man as a way to relax and let go of the stresses of the day.

11 What is the global impact on society of the invention and subsequent innovations? It provided an drink for the working man, women and college bound child bring them ever so closer to each other then earlier possible. Plus, according to the US Senses Bureau the purchasing of alcohol had an decline as more people went from a beer for dad to a beverage that the whole family could enjoy together.

12 If you had the ability to change this product in any way, what would you change? I would make it more healthy but still have the great taste.
