“Meat of the story”

3 details When you plan your story there is a section that looks like this: 3 Details 1. Needed to get off my bed 2. Climbing down the stairs 3. Entering the kitchen and drinking the cats milk

3 details When you are ready to write your main event paragraph you need to turn each of your 3 details into complete sentences. Then you need to add three descriptive details to go with the details Use your senses to describe what you are seeing, hearing, feeling, touching or tasting. At that time, turn your descriptive details into complete sentences.

3 details 3 Details 1.Needed to get off the bed a. The blankets looked like an emergency slide b. threw my legs out in front of me like I had seen on TV and slid down c. Landed on my sheets safely on the ground 2. Climbing down the stairs a. ran for miles outside of my bedroom b. like the Rocky Mountains at 6 inches tall c. Once I arrived at the bottom, I ran toward the kitchen 3. Entering the kitchen and drinking the cats milk a. passing the cat who was looking at me strangely running by b. I ran to the kitchen, and as gross as it was, went head first into the cats milk. c. I slowly grew back to my normal size and ran upstairs to get the milk smell off before my mom found me out!

Turning Details into Sentences 1. Needed to get off the bed a. The blankets looked like an emergency slide b. threw my legs out in front of me like I had seen on TV and slid down c. Landed on my sheets safely on the ground My mind worked frantically devising a plan to return myself to normal before my mother found out about my condition. If she found out that I was six inches tall, she would surely know that I didn’t drink my milk at dinner last night and I would be grounded for ever! The first thing I needed to do was get off my bed. The bed that I normally hop off of effortlessly has suddenly turned into a cliff. I stood at the edge of the bed, looking over the side. If I were to jump at this height it would kill me for sure. Luckily, I do a lot of tossing and turning when I sleep and my blankets always end up twisted and tossed partly off the bed. I remembered watching TV one time when people were exiting a plane that had made an emergency landing. Looking at my blankets, they suddenly appeared to look like one of those inflatable slides that come out of the doors of the plane. Without thinking twice, I jumped, legs together in front of me the way the people on TV had done it. It felt like the longest, fastest ride I had ever been on. I landed safely in the soft pile of my sheets that I tossed off the bed during the night.

Turning Details into Sentences 2.Climbing down the stairs a. ran for miles outside of my bedroom b. like the Rocky Mountains at 6 inches tall c. Once I arrived at the bottom, I ran toward the kitchen Now that I was on the floor I must find a way downstairs into the kitchen to get some milk before my mom found me out. I ran what seemed like miles out of my bedroom into the hall to the top of the stairs. The stairs that I climb 10 times a day every day had never looked so much like the Rocky Mountains. One by one, I lowered myself over the edge of each step until I could just let go and land on my feet. It was a long 14 steps on the way to the bottom. Once I arrived downstairs I ran as fast as my miniature legs would carry me toward the kitchen.

Turning Details into Sentences 3. Entering the kitchen and drinking the cats milk a. passing the cat who was looking at me strangely at me running by b. Could not lift the milk, then I had an idea about the cat! c. Went head first into the cats bowl I knew once I got there I could drink some of the milk and everything would be ok. My cat seemed confused as she watched me run by her while she was lying on the windowsill. I could see the enormous structures of the kitchen just ahead. As I crossed the threshold of the kitchen relieved to find that my mother had not yet come downstairs for the day, I was again taken over by panic. How as I going to open the fridge, let alone lift a 3 pound gallon of milk? I searched around the kitchen for assistance. As I was rounding the corner of the island I saw the cats bowl in front of me. It was, at the time that I had my most genius idea so far. The cat had milk in her bowl and I needed to get back to normal. I pondered the idea for a minute thinking about how disgusting it seemed to me to share a bowl with my cat who was known to lick her own fur. This seemed minor next to the thought of how long I would be grounded for wasting milk. That was when I did it. I jumped into the cats bowl and started drinking. My six inch body slowly expanded and stretched back to me 4’ frame.
