2 OVERVIEW Mitt Romney wins Texas, clinches GOP presidential nomination. Barack Obama easily wins majority in Texas Democratic primary U.S. Senate GOP candidates David Dewhurst, Ted Cruz heading to July runoff; Democrats Paul Sadler, Grady Yarbrough also headed to a runoff All incumbent U.S. House GOP lawmakers kept their seats. Only one incumbent U.S. Rep.* lost in the Texas primary Both Railroad Commission races resulted in runoff elections The Texas Senate will see four or five new GOP members Seven Texas House incumbents lost; three others face runoff elections * Rep. Silvestre Reyes (D-El Paso) Only 15.5 percent of registered voters in Texas voted in this year’s primary elections

3 STATEWIDE RACES Romney, Obama Score Big Wins in Texas Presidential candidate Mitt Romney garnered 69% of the Texas Republican primary vote. Romney’s win in Texas puts him over the threshold of 1,144 delegates needed for the GOP presidential nomination Obama handily won Texas with 88.21% of the Texas Democratic primary vote Dewhurst, Cruz Headed for Contentious Runoff Election Former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz won 34.2% of the vote, forcing a runoff with Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst (44.6%) Dewhurst viewed as the “establishment” candidate while Cruz enjoys Tea Party support Railroad Commission Runoff Races (Republican) Incumbent Commissioner Barry Smitherman received 44.2% of the primary vote and will face Comal County Commissioner Greg Parker (27.8%) Energy attorney Christi Craddick will face Rep. Warren Chisum (R-Pampa)

4 TEXAS LEGISLATURE Texas Senate The Texas Senate will see four, five or six new GOP members this session Four retirements; one runoff Incumbent Jeff Wentworth (R- San Antonio) will face Tea Party favorite Donna Campbell in the Senate’s only primary runoff election November Race to Watch: Mark Shelton (R-Fort Worth), who won the SD-10 primary race, will face Wendy Davis (D-Fort Worth) Texas House Seven Texas House incumbents lost; four others face runoff elections House speaker Joe Straus saw several of his top lieutenants, including three committee chairs, defeated (though two of the seven incumbents who lost were Straus opponents during the last speaker's race) Rep. Bryan Hughes (R-Mineola) announced on Tuesday his intention to run for House speaker in 2013
