2  Born 1916-Argentina  Died 1983-Geneva, Switzerland  By age 30 he had composed a significant number of compositions for solo instruments, choir, orchestra, and film.  One of the most influential composers in Argentina.

3  Studied at the National Conservatory of Music in Argentina  Spent one year in the U.S. on a Guggenheim Fellowship, where he studied with Aaron Copland

4  He grouped his music into three periods- Objective Nationalism, Subjective Nationalism, & Neo-expressionism.  Objective Nationalism incorporates Argentine folk themes in a straight forward manner, while the later periods integrate those elements in a more abstract form.  Influenced by Copland, Stravinsky, and Bartok
