Exposition  Term used to describe events at the beginning of a story that set the scene and introduce background, characters, and conflict. The exposition is the starting point of a narrative and can be thought of as the status quo (a.k.a the existing state of affairs), before the complications of the plot begin.

Rising Action  This part of the story begins to develop the conflict(s). A building of interest or suspense occurs.

Resolution and denouement  The story comes to a reasonable ending.  The final part of a play, movie, or narrative in which the strands of the plot are drawn together and matters are explained or resolved.

Today’s Choreographic Device  Develop movement that expressed the exposition of your story.  ONLY USE HUMAN GESTURES AS YOU MOVEMENT!!!!!  Create just the simple movement that an actor would add to his or her character.

Choreographic Device  Abstracting a Gesture  Take the base movement phrase and break apart each gesture and make the movement grow and change by extending the movement into the space at a greater value.

Choreographic Device Vary the Energy  Take the series of movement and add different levels of force and effort to represent the emotions being constructed in the story.  Force  Effort  Tension  Weight  Stillness  Soft  Light  Resistance
