5 New Agricultural Methods 1.The Enclosure Movement -farmers started to fence their pastures and fields -villages lost land and control over the open spaces -Access to land and resources became harder for non-land owners 2.Crop Rotation -rotating crops allowed more nutrients to stay in the soil -produced better crops -increased crop yields -Let farmers utilize the lands all year long and every season 3.Selective Breeding -only allowing best livestock to breed -increased meat production and yields

9 New Agricultural Inventions 1.Seed Drill-invented by Jethro Tull -before the agricultural revolution, farmers would spread seeds by hand (broadcasting); many seeds wouldn’t germinate -The seed drill allows farmers to sow seeds in well-spaced rows at specific depths at a specific seed rate -increased rate of germination, and a much- improved crop yield up to eight times more than by hand

13 New Agricultural Inventions 2.Cotton Gin- invented by Eli Whitney -a machine that quickly and easily separates the cotton fibers from the seedpods -cause a massive growth in the production of cotton -price of cotton decreased and it became more available to the people

17 Results of the Agricultural Revolution 1.Dramatic increase in population because of food availability 2.A surplus of food in society that could be bought, sold and traded 3.An increased demand for consumer goods and food 4.Changed women’s role in society from working in the fields to the service industry 5.Led to advances in transportation, refrigeration, and many other technologies
