3. Mentor My mentor is Officer Steve Little, a well respected cop stationed in Selma. He was a huge help to me with my project as he already owned a golf cart so I didn’t have to go out and rent one. 4. My research The first test was driving the course without the goggles. Everyone who attempted it had a quick driving time and managed to hit little to no cones set up. My research After we tried it without the goggles, we put them on and the information was nearly reversed with the majority of cones being hit and the time of the course completion is significantly higher. 7. obstacles The biggest obstacle for me in this project trying to get the beer goggles. I asked my mentor for some and even he being a officer didn’t have access to them. I tried other police stations including claytons and they didn’t have them either. No store at least local ones carry this item either. 8. Overcoming my obstacle So after failing in my search for the beer goggles I had no choice but to rely on another option similar to the beer goggles. I used swimming goggles and put water on the outside of them to give a blurry image looking through them. Link between research and product My research went almost hand in hand with my product as in when the volunteer was driving “drunk” he was driving awful as a real driver would on the road which explains why there is so many accidents due to drinking and driving. 10. My product My product was to set up a eight coned obstacle course and have volunteers drive through it being timed and keeping track of how many cones were hit. The volunteer is going through the course twice simulating being sober and “drunk”. 11. Things I learned about myself I learned that I am a procrastinator and I wait to long to get behind. 12. Meaningful Experience This was a very meaningful experience to me because it has helped me see in the future when I have a career that I need to get stuff set up and completed earlier. This experience has also taught me to be safer on the roads and that your thoughts and mind set aren’t always the same in reality!
