17. /74 Cooling was planned to start at the beginning of September Delivery of helium faced serious problems 1.Failure of the central liquefier. This sums up to a delay of several weeks. 2.Problems with Cryo Group cold box in 888. Specifically: turbine (water cooling), vacuum, power cuts, and electrical problems with the diffusion pump. Problems were finally solved about the 18 th of October and the magnet was cold on the 24 th. At this point the PH-DT group was overloaded with commitments for the restart of LHC experiments and could devote to us only a limited time for: – tests to run the solenoid up to 2.5 T – tests to run the dipole at the nominal field at 0.6 T Problem with Helium delivery for target magnet 18/11/2014COMPASS FRC - 17th meeting17

18. /74 “Solenoid up to 2.5 T” allows to polarize the material. “Dipole at 0.6 T” allows to run the experiment in the same conditions as in polarized Drell-Yan data taking. What is missing is the automatic procedure that, controlling together solenoid and dipole, allows the rotation of the spin from longitudinal to transverse mode. I.E. 19. /74 We decided to complete the setup installation before full magnet commissioning Upload the ammonia (NH 3 ) in the target (very delicate operation).
