1 12-February-2014 BE-RF-PM CLIC MODULE Preparation for the duty cycles Written by: Elena Daskalaki Checked by: Alexander Samochkine Approved by: Germana Riddone

2 12-February-2014 BE-RF-PM Preparation steps Power measurements Air speed measurements FEA simulator Alignment measurements in transients Preparation phaseDuty cycles start: 17/02/2014 Nominal operation mode Failure modes Transients

3 12-February-2014 BE-RF-PM Power measurements Scope: Verify the power given by the software Target power (W)Given power (W) DBQ150146 PETS unit220210 SAS820600 DBQ PETS SAS Compact Loads

4 12-February-2014 BE-RF-PM Air speed measurement Scope ‒Measure actual air speed on the module surface ‒Observe the uniformity of air speed along the module as well as between the DB and MB ‒Provide these values as input to the module FEA simulator Fans

5 12-February-2014 BE-RF-PM 5 Air speed measurement The room air speed tuned to the nominal CLIC value of 0.7 m/s Measurement of air speed along the module at 5 points on the MB and DB. Measurement of air speed on grid of points covering the whole room 12345

6 12-February-2014 BE-RF-PM Air speed measurement PositionAir speed MB (m/s)Air speed DB (m/s) 10.310.33 20.220.19 30.18 40.150.14 50.110.12 The air speed is uniform between the DB and MB. The air speed decreases along the structure. This fact is expected taking into account the position of the fans.

7 12-February-2014 BE-RF-PM FEA simulator 1.Finalization of simulator based on heat transfer theory 2.Tuning of the simulator based on CLIC nominal values 3.Two simulations are currently running Air speed: 0.2 m/s Room temperature: 20 and 40 o C Power in components: o DBQ 150 W o PETS unit 220 W o RFN loads 178 W o SAS 820 W o SAS loads 178 W

8 12-February-2014 BE-RF-PM Alignment measurements in transients Steady-state: Full set of alignment measurements using all fiducials Transients: Measurement of selected fiducials every 1 o C One PETS complete One DBQ complete Drive BeamMain Beam SAS-1 complete SAS-x extremes (beginning and end) *Photos: M. Duquenne
