DISEMA 2006, 15-16 June 2006 Envisaged Implementation: Between the Data Centres Common access point for users searching and viewing information distributed in different DCs Interoperability of services to develop specific cross-cutting themes applications

DISEMA 2006, 15-16 June 2006 A common web portal What should be included? Integrated Catalog of Metadata - Harvested metadata collected and maintained by various DC - Direct hosting of metadata (if a DC is not managing its own catalog) Discovery services (search data using keywords, themes, geographical extent, geo-location) View services (view data stored in different DC and partners) What should not be included ? Data repository DC thematic applications Common Architecture - basic elements -

DISEMA 2006, 15-16 June 2006 Analysis of data/information needs Inventory of available data Identification of data providers Agreement with data providers (Network, IPR, protocols…) Formulation of links to projects within GMES, RTD Involvement of expert knowledge Envisaged Implementation: Within the Data Centres

DISEMA 2006, 15-16 June 2006 scientific and technical support Access to data, maps, etc. scientific and technical support for the development of guidelines on data scientific and technical support for the development of European datasets scientific and technical support in relation to integrated assessment Requirements of DG ENV

DISEMA 2006, 15-16 June 2006 EFDAC Metadata example (Dublin Core) Title EFFIS EU Fire Database Subject Forest fires Keywords forest fires, fire statistics, fire risk, fire map, historical fire series Publisher JRC-LMNH Status Operational Description Systematic collection of a minimum set of data on each fire occurring, carried out under Forest Focus Regulation (EC No 2152/2003) by the Member States participating in the EFFIS network system. It is a module of EFFIS which is aimed to provide relevant information for the protection of forests against fire in Europe addressing both pre-fire and post-fire conditions. The public access to the database currently allows the users to retrieve general information such as maps of the number of fires for a selected year and for the countries for which data are available. Further analysis possibilities will be added in the near future. Data sources Individual fire events records provided by MS forest services or civil protection services, aggregated at NUT3 level Type Map service Format WMS, Vector maps (Oracle spatial, ESRI) Coverage 15 MS (Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Sweden and Slovakia) + Romania, Croatia and Turkey Scale / Resolution NUTS3 level Frequency of updates yearly Last update 2004 Contact Paulo Barbosa (paulo.barbosa@jrc.it) Andrea Camia (andrea.camia@jrc.it) JRC - LMNH Unitpaulo.barbosa@jrc.itandrea.camia@jrc.it Rights / Accessibility Public access to aggregated data URL http://effis.jrc.it
