What is Evangelism  Evangelism is not just a series of meetings or church services. Evangelism is not the same as revival. Revival is the Lord at work in the Church.  In revival, the emphasis is on the presence of the Lord restoring life to His people.  Evangelism is the church at work for the Lord. In evangelism the emphasis is on the new birth experience, the beginning of spiritual life.  The renewal resulting from revival, however, sets in motion the forces of evangelism which result in “new creatures in Christ” so the two are tightly linked together in terms of spiritual life.  Evangelism is the process of  communicating the Gospel  through the power of the Holy Spirit  in such a way that men and women  have valid opportunity to accept Jesus Christ as Lord  and become responsible members of His Church.

Need for Evangelism  Why does the world need to be evangelized?  To answer this question you must understand two things:  The definition and the destiny of the lost.  Definition of the lost  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)  All people who have not repented of sin and experienced the new birth described by Jesus in John chapter 3 are considered “lost” because they have lost the sinless nature with which God originally created man.  Destiny of the lost  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:12, 15).

Evangelism Ministry Jesus called some to be evangelist’s as part of the 5-fold ministry. It is a leadership position to prepare the saints for work. (Eph 4:11) Every Christian is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. (Mark 16:15).

Do the work of an Evangelist  The Apostle Paul charged Timothy to, "Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all long suffering and teaching.“2 Tim 4:5  This is the work of the evangelist. He is to faithfully proclaim the unsearchable riches of Christ; to make the sinner aware of his sins; to correct with compassion; to encourage with hope and to never lose hope in or belief that man is beyond redemption. This can only be accomplished when one is willing to fulfil his ministry.  Paul challenges young Timothy to be faithful in four basic areas in fulfilling his work as an evangelist-pastor.  Hold to sound doctrine  Teach sound doctrine  Continue in sound doctrine  Preach sound doctrine

Sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ  Great Commission  Mat 28:19  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Mat 28:20  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.  This commandment is applicable to all disciples.  The Holy Spirit will help us power to be witnesses for he Lord. (Acts 1:8)

Typical evangelism activities  Planning, organizing and executing an tent campaign  Conducting and participating in a tract drive  Participating in open airs  Executing a door to door campaign  Making time to prayer for the lost and evangelism  Discussing methods to win souls for the Lord  Sharing the gospel with an individual  Giving your testimony to a friend

Planning for an Evangelism Campaign  Do a SWOT analysis  Determine your strengths,  Determine your weaknesses  Make use of the opportunities  Minimize the threads  Document your goals and objective for the time-period  Think of the equipment and resources you would require  Take each objective and ask yourself how are you going to achieve that objective.  Make a list of tasks and assign a person to each action. And set a deadline for each action.  Put this in a project plan and track it from there. You have to do some follow up and update the plan on a regular basis
