1 State sources of heat energy. Heat sources (Flame, Electric Arc, and Electrical Resistance)

2 SUN: – The sun is a part of our solar system. Thus, it is a natural source of heat energy. Sunlight is important for the existence of all living organisms on the planet. This form of heat energy is also called solar energy. SUN: – The sun is a part of our solar system. Thus, it is a natural source of heat energy. 3 The Earth – The heat energy that is found from the Earth is called geothermal energy. Sustainable and clean geothermal energy can be found in the hot water and rocks present in the shallow ground. It is also found in the molten rocks available in the extreme depth of the Earth. The Earth – The heat energy that is found from the Earth is called geothermal energy. 4 Air: – The air around us is a very common source of heat energy for heat pumps. Exhaust air is also a good heat source for heat pumps in buildings, both commercial and residential. 5 Burning Fuel: – Heat energy can be generated by the burning of fuels. Fuel can be defined as any combustible substance that can burn and provide energy. A few examples of fuels are wood, kerosene, coal, charcoal, gasoline/petrol and oil. Burning Fuel: – Heat energy can be generated by the burning of fuels. 6 What makes the electric arc? – When there is a big amount of electric charges present at one point and there is a difference in that point and some adjoining point then there an arc is produced when that large amount of electric charge tries to jump to the low potential point. If the potential different can be controlled then there will be a control in the arc and the heat produced is thus controlled. 7 What will happen when a current is passing in a conductor? – You may have noticed that the conductor gets heated. This is due to the resistance in the conductor What will happen if there is an opposing effect? – The current will try to overcome that effect. Results in temperature effect. How to Control that heat? – current flow in a conductor can be controlled by simply varying the voltage applied at the two terminals of the conductor.
