25 th CEOS Plenary, Lucca Italy, 8-9 November 2011 CSA report Luc Brûlé, CEOS Principal Canadian Space Agency

25 th CEOS Plenary, Lucca Italy, 8-9 November 2011 RADARSAT-1  16 th anniversary of operations  Planning an additional 3 years (longest SAR Mission in history)  Mission: Reduce conflicts, support disaster management, Science, R&D Data Access: CSA is processing archives by theme (registered on GEO and available on http://www.asc-csa.gc.ca)http://www.asc-csa.gc.ca Plan to create a special Science & Operational Application Research (SOAR) to use archived data around the world.

25 th CEOS Plenary, Lucca Italy, 8-9 November 2011 RADARSAT-2  Launched in December 2007  Fully operational  Must comply with end users licence  Several SOAR programs  Data available for FCT, JECAM and Flood Pilots  Thematic SOAR such as GEOhazard supersite.

25 th CEOS Plenary, Lucca Italy, 8-9 November 2011 RADARSAT Constellation Mission  Presently in Phase C with Mission CDR in 08-12  Proceeding toward phase D approval

25 th CEOS Plenary, Lucca Italy, 8-9 November 2011 RADARSAT Constellation Mission RCM Contribution to GEO  The proposed data policy for RCM is in line with the GEO data sharing principle (full and open data sharing). However,  international contribution will need to be assessed against Commercial distribution agreement and the regulation of the Canadian Remote Sensing Satellite System Act.  RCM design may represent further constraints as the mission was primarily designed to cover the Canadian territory.  CSA is presently performing data acquisition simulations to evaluate the capability of the system to support GEO initiatives.

25 th CEOS Plenary, Lucca Italy, 8-9 November 2011 SCISAT-1 6  SCISAT-1 most important instrument is an optical Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, the ACE-FTS Instrument.  Helps a team of Cdn and intl scientists improve their understanding of the depletion of the ozone layer, with an all emphasis on the changes over Canada and in the Arctic.  Is providing the most accurate measurements to date of chemicals that affect ozone  Launched in August 2003 8 years anniversary on August 2011 Mission will be extended until March 2014

25 th CEOS Plenary, Lucca Italy, 8-9 November 2011 A proposal for 2013 CEOS Thematic The ARCTIC, a laboratory to observe Climate Change The evidence of global warming is in no place more obvious than in the Arctic region. The magnitude of temperature increase in the Arctic is twice as large as the global increase. Vulnerable ecosystems in the Arctic are under threat. The accelerating loss of ice from the Greenland ice sheet contributes to global sea level rise which represent a threat for coastal region of the planet.
