2 The big picture In most aspects of health, Australia either matches or leads other comparable countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in key measures of health: – Life expectancy – Mortality – Perceived health status

3 How Australia compares to other OECD countries One of the highest life expectancies in the world, ranking fourth behind Japan, Switzerland and Iceland (when male and female figures are combined) Overall mortality rate compares well with other OECD countries. Since 1960, death rates for females has declined 54%, and for males 53%. High perceived health status - ranking fifth behind NZ, USA, Canada and Switzerland
