3 Environmental Accounts 29-30 March 2011OECD/Eurostat Joint Questionnaire - Results from 2010 data collection EPER data collection – JQ 2010 Data collection carried out between July 2010 and February 2011 2 questionnaires were sent out to 38 European countries: – 1 questionnaire based on NACE Rev. 1.1 prefilled with data from Eurostat’s database for years 1990, 1995-2009 – 1 questionnaire based on NACE Rev. 2 for years 2006- 2009 Data reports received from 28 countries, out of them 25 EU Member States Half of the countries (13 Member States, 1 candidate country) met the deadline set for data reporting

4 Environmental Accounts 29-30 March 2011OECD/Eurostat Joint Questionnaire - Results from 2010 data collection EPER data collection – JQ 2010 26 countries (23 EU Member States, 2 candidate countries and 1 EFTA country) sent NACE Rev. 1.1 dataset About half of the countries (16 EU Member States and 1 candidate country) provided data in NACE Rev. 2 NACE Rev. 2 data: 2008 – 16 countries, 2009 – 8 countries, 2006 and 2007 – 6 countries 2 countries (LT and RO) reported only NACE Rev. 2 data as they have already provided the complete NACE Rev. 1.1 data set till 2007 during the 2008 data collection

5 Environmental Accounts 29-30 March 2011OECD/Eurostat Joint Questionnaire - Results from 2010 data collection Validation of data In the prefilled questionnaire a basic checking tool was incorporated in order to help both countries and Eurostat with data quality checks Validation of data - 2 rounds –First round: NACE Rev. 1.1 data are validated and available in Eurostat database –Second round: NACE Rev. 2. data will be validated during spring 2011 Quality of the data has improved However the validation process has still resulted in number of revisions of the delivered datasets. Any revision/modification of the data was made with the agreement of the country.

6 Environmental Accounts 29-30 March 2011OECD/Eurostat Joint Questionnaire - Results from 2010 data collection Publication of data NACE Rev. 1.1 country data have been published in Eurostat database Calculation of indicators (expenditures per inhabitant and % of GDP) for NACE Rev. 1.1 dataset has been completed and published in Eurostat database NACE Rev. 2. data are planned to be published by end of July 2011 A ‘country fact sheet’ publication based on the data received is being prepared by end of summer SIF on EU aggregates is planning to be published by end of the year Statistics Explained http://epp.eurostat.ec.europa.eu/statistics_explained/index.php/Environm ental_protection_expenditure

13 Environmental Accounts 29-30 March 2011OECD/Eurostat Joint Questionnaire - Results from 2010 data collection Gap-filling and estimation of EU aggregates Gap-filling and estimation of European aggregates (EU15, EU25, EU27) for the years 2007 and 2008 will be carried out during summer 2011 and published subsequently NACE Rev. 1.1 C, D, E and total industry (C+D+E) EU27, EU25 and EU15 for years 2007 and 2008 will be available for: –Investments, current expenditure and environmental protection expenditure –Total environmental domains

17 Environmental Accounts 29-30 March 2011OECD/Eurostat Joint Questionnaire - Results from 2010 data collection Conclusions / Lessons learnt Coverage of data delivered through JQ 2010 has increased Timeliness of data reporting needs to be improved Data quality has increased, however the quality checks still resulted in a number of revisions of the delivered datasets Publication of data and calculated indicators has improved (within 5 months after the deadline set)
