2 Grade Level We are putting this project together for grades fifth through eighth. Many of the activities and resources can be used for different levels. Goals and Objectives We want to create a resource for teaching the decade of the 1960’s. The resources are varied and touch upon many different aspects of this decade.

6 1. The students will create a timeline of the civil rights movement. 2. The students will pick one civil rights leader and research them and present an oral report on their leader. 3. The students will interview someone who lived during the sixties and ask them questions about the decade. 4. The students will create a timeline of the Vietnam War. 5. We will have a Vietnam Veteran visit the class and talk about the war.

9 1. Listen to Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” and have the students write about their dreams. 2. Study the first moonwalk and visit the Challenger Center. 3. Study the presidency of Kennedy and Johnson and compare and contrast their presidencies using a Venn Diagram. 4. Have a visitor, who experienced the Civil Rights Movement, speak to students. 5. Watch a video of the first space walk.
