3. Some Terms You Should Know Tone- Authors attitude towards the subject or audience. Mood-is the emotional attitude the author takes towards the subject. Syntax-the way in which linguistic elements are put together to form constituents. Synonym-different words with identical or very similar meaning. Antonym- a word of opposite meaning.

4. Even More Terms… Irony-is an implied discrepancy between what is said and what is meant. Simile-is the comparison of two unlike things using like or as. Metaphor- the comparison of two unlike things, particularly not using like or as. Hyperbole- exaggeration of a overstatement. Allusion-is a brief reference to a person, event, or place, real or fictitious, or to a work of art. Alliteration-is the repetition of initial sounds in neighboring words.

5. How I would take This test Get a good night’s rest. Eat a healthy breakfast. Take breaks when I feel as if they are needed.
