2  Objective: Students will be able to analyze the various causes and effects of slavery in the colonies by completing a worksheet and classroom discussion.  Purpose: To examine the significance Africans had on American, U.S. History, and their contributions to the origins of the war.  Standard: 1.2 - Students will compare lifestyles in the New England, Middle, and Southern Colonies according to race, class, and gender by utilizing one of the big 11 social studies skills.  Historical Thinking Skill: Cause & Consequence Lesson Title: Slavery in the Colonies

3 Announcements: Collect Homework  Take out your Chapter 3 Personal Dictionary so that I can check it, stamp it, and reward points.  Acknowledgement of Course Expectations  50 points.  Due September 26, 2014.

4 Warm-up: CNN Student News Time Limit: 10 Minutes  Write down facts as you watch the video.  1 point = 1 correctly written fact.  I need to see at least (a minimum of) 5 facts.  Example:  The Sky = This is NOT a fact.  The Sky is Blue = This IS a fact.

10 Closure: Colonial Regions Pop-Quiz Time Limit: 5 Minutes  Examine the map and fill in the questions.  This will be your EXIT SLIP out of the door.

11 Homework:  Acknowledgement of Course Expectations.  Due September 26, 2014.  50 points  Extra Credit Opportunity:  Bring in 1 new & unopened tissue box to receive 5 points extra credit.  You can only bring in 1 tissue box PER QUARTER!

12 Closure  Turn to a neighbor and discuss one thing learned today in class.  Write down their name and response on your paper below your Notes / Warm-Up.
