JASON-1 MISSION STATUS S. Coutin-Faye CNES, Altimetry and Precise Positioning Office

Jason-1 status- OSTST - Hobart - March, 20072 MAJOR EVENTS SINCE LAST OSTST (March 16-18, 2006 Venice) ■Project Milestones:  Exploitation Review held on March 22, 2006 in Toulouse Space Center: successful : only one major recommendation dealing with station keeping maneuvers ■Satellite major events :  1 Safe Hold Mode due to a Mass Memory double error: fully explained and repaired ■Instruments :  No major event JASON-1 MISSION STATUS

Jason-1 status- OSTST - Hobart - March, 20073 Jason-1 Data Availability ■Data availability since last SWT : OK  Requirement = 95% of all possible over-ocean data  Payload telemetry data losses due to :  bus 4.89% (1SHM)  altimeter0.1% (2 incidents)  Doris0.00%  JMR0.00%  Satellite (total) :~ 4.99%  ground system: ~ 0.05% (data loss at earth terminal level)  Total Availability ~ 94.96% since last SWT at OSDR/IGDR and GDR level JASON-1 MISSION STATUS

Jason-1 status- OSTST - Hobart - March, 20074 Platform incident synthesis since last SWT (March, 2006) JASON-1 MISSION STATUS

Jason-1 status- OSTST - Hobart - March, 20075 Satellite status The Jason-1 satellite works well. Margins in propellant are sufficient to ensure a 10 years mission duration -> Specific activities performed to monitor critical subsystems:  STR  stabilized since December 2002  new calibration table uploaded on STR2 & STR1 => decreasing of the STR noise. Better estimates of gyros errors : status OK  Reaction wheel  Satellite operations conducted using the 3 wheel attitude: status OK  Tranceiver  Satellite operations conducted using the Tx on PMA: status OK  SADM  SADM spike are continuously monitored (detected by yellow ground alarm): status OK  There is NO short term risk and NO functional impact through the preventive actions performed (gain decreasing, FDR inhibition) JASON-1 MISSION STATUS

Jason-1 status- OSTST - Hobart - March, 20076 Maneuver synthesis ■Station keeping maneuver:  one every 2 months  2006/04/20 with  a = 8.4 m  2006/06/29 with  a = 6.66 m  2006/09/26 with  a = 8.11 m  2006/12/14 with  a = 6.36 m  2007/01/23 with  a = 7.23 m  2007/02/22 with  a = - 1.9 m ■Cross maneuver:  On request  None from last SWT ■Gyro calibration  No more due to 3 reaction wheel configuration JASON-1 MISSION STATUS

Jason-1 status- OSTST - Hobart - March, 20077 Equatorial Nodal Crossing  requirement = +- 1 km from reference nodes (yellow zone)  After the SL went out of its ground track windows on Feb. 2006 due to bad efficiency of braking maneuver and,  According to the 2006 REVEX recommendation, expertise has been performed to better take into account efficiency uncertainty: no more excursion outside the +/- 1km window NB: curves are for Ascending and Descending nodes and green squares are maneuvers JASON-1 MISSION STATUS

Jason-1 status- OSTST - Hobart - March, 20078 Payload incident synthesis since last SWT (March, 2006) JASON-1 MISSION STATUS

Jason-1 status- OSTST - Hobart - March, 20079 DORIS and Poseidon specific operations DORIS ■None ■no change of configuration since last SWT POSEIDON ■Specific operations limited to Restart when incident detected ■no change of configuration since last SWT, March 2006 -> CNES payload: status OK (see JPL presentation for NASA detailed payload status) JASON-1 MISSION STATUS

Jason-1 status- OSTST - Hobart - March, 200710 Jason Ground System (Routine) CNES Earth Terminal : - Aussaguel CNESET-AUS CNES Control Center JCCC (Toulouse) CNES Mission Center SSALTO (Toulouse) JPL Control Center JTCCS (Pasadena) JPL Mission Center JSDS (Pasadena) NASA Earth Terminals : - Poker Flat NASAET-PFF - Wallops (back up) NASAET-WFF AUS PFF WFF USERS JASON-1 MISSION STATUS

Jason-1 status- OSTST - Hobart - March, 200711 CNES/JPL Operations Status ■Very good behavior for both Control Centers  Payload TM gaps due to 1 SHM since last SWT (Nov. 2006) & Poseidon incidents  Ground system : ROBUST ■Operations Status: GREEN  All the JGS elements are performing well  All documentation and ops team training is complete and up to date  1 SHM recovery successfully performed. ■CNES/JPL operational coordination is well understood and working smoothly. JASON-1 MISSION STATUS

Jason-1 status- OSTST - Hobart - March, 200712 JASON-1 MISSION STATUS CONCLUSION ■Jason-1 mission, satellite and ground system: current status is very good ■Within the CNES Altimetry Service (SALP): Jason-1 considered to be highest priority for continued operations ■Extension agreement for 5 more years of operation signed between CNES & NASA on december, 2006
