Our Campaign ‘More jobs for young people in Leicester’

What are we saying? We decided that we wanted to campaign for more jobs for the young people in Leicester. If we want to make change happen, we need to demonstrate our active citizenship skills. This goes beyond simply standing in a group holding placards. We also can’t be negative. Simply saying ‘we want a job’ won’t do much. A successful campaign needs to be balanced, organised and fair. We have to be considerate and work with others in our community to bring about a positive change.

Our Target Audience - Who are we saying it to? Local Business leaders Local MP’s Larger Businesses and Public Sector organisations The Public Don’t forget: Are there similar organisations in Leicester and across the UK that are saying the same thing? Is there any way to work with them? (eg, The Princes Trust)

Our Tactics - How are we going to say it? Leicester Mercury – Letters and editorials Local news – How can we get our message across as a story? Facebook Groups – Gaining public support Website National on-line petitions – asking for public support for youth employment Leicester Chamber of Commerce – How should we approach local business leaders? Do we want part-time jobs? Training? Apprenticeships? De Montfort University and the University of Leicester – Students support Public Protests in Leicester – raising awareness to 30+ age group – Negative protests get a negative result. Positive protests are always the best way to gain public support for an issue. Publicity Stunts? – YouTube videos? etc.

What do we hope the response to be? Business and Enterprise opportunities for young people in Leicester Could we set up our own social enterprise project with help from other organisations? More part-time jobs? Apprenticeships? Training from local employers?
