2. THE HISTORY OF MAMMOTH The park was found in July of 1941 The park was made a national park because, of all it geographic features and rich resources. Mammoth Cave was seen by a train passing it and a passenger saw the humongous cave of in the distance.

4. ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES One issue with the park is air pollution. Gases from mining like ozone, nitrogen, sulfur, and mercury go in the air. The animals like birds can’t see and inhale the bad air.

5. LAND FEATURES OF MAMMOTH Mammoth has many land forms one of them is in the name caves. Mammoth cave is big cave system. The park is 82.6 square miles. The cave system is 86.5 miles long, the longest in the world. There are also some small mountains ranging 1/10 mi to 100 ft. tall.

6. WHAT TYPE OF ROCKS CAN BE FOUND INSIDE MAMMOTH CAVES There are over 100 types of rocks in mammoth cave. But here are just the main types. Crystals Fossils Stalactites & stalagmites

7. HOW IS TECHNOLOGY USED TO HELP PRESERVE AND MAINTAIN MAMMOTH They are trying to reduce the effect that people have on the caves by using technology. This is a hard task because 400,000 people go in the cave each year. LED lights where put on cave trails to take the place of regular light bulbs in order to stop growth of algae on the cave walls. Truck and bus emissions can hurt nature in the park. For this reason they use ethanol fueled trucks and biodiesel ferry boats and lawn tractors. Also they use propane powered buses. Plus they are starting to use electric vehicles.
