Why do the sun’s particles interest us? A)Because they will help us understand and combat global warming. B)Because we can harness them for energy. C)Because they are the same particles that make up our entire solar system. D)Because we want to be able to create an accurate model of the sun.

Module Overview Standards and Learning Objectives Materials Needed Activity Overview Related Activities

Science Standards Physical Science Properties and Changes of Properties of Matter There are more than 100 known elements that combine in a multitude of ways to produce compounds which account for the living and nonliving substances that we encounter.

Math Standards Data Analysis and Probability Select, create, and use appropriate graphical representations of data, including histograms, box plots, and scatterplots.

Objectives Students will understand that elements are the basic building blocks of all things found on Earth and in space. Students will gain facility creating graphs from data they generate.

He was born in Russia in 1834, Hard work as a youth opened up the college doors,

He always tried to be the best that he could be, And chose to make his mark in chemistry.

Who told the elements where to go? Mendeleev!

Who put them in columns and in rows? Mendeleev!

Who was ready, who was able to make a periodic table,

Who was the chemist? Mendeleev!
