5 A new type of technology-rich discovery space to be located in the Georgia State University Library that brings together: undergraduate researchers, graduate students, and expert researchers from multiple disciplines in a shared, hands-on, interactive environment engaged learners and researchers with an interest in making new connections with spatial and numeric data, digital media, human narrative, and the arts 21 st century investigators who seek to bridge quantitative and qualitative methods, creativity, and diverse modes of inquiry

6 and… expert assistance from subject librarians and research specialists in a central campus location visualization software and hardware, large-scale displays, and the latest “digital canvases for collaboration” access to specialty software packages for GIS, quantitative, qualitative, and statistical data analysis; the latest geospatial and visualization tools for analyzing the complex challenges of cities one-on-one and group consultations; workshops and class instruction; guest lectures and presentations

7 Facility Library South 2 3,300 square feet of highly-visible space enclosed by a glass wall within the University Library; 66 occupants Swipe-card (PantherCard) access for all qualified Georgia State students, faculty, and staff individualized assistance supporting student research success; available during scheduled hours and by appointment Cost –~1.1 Million Tech Fee Innovation Fund, Library, Campus, 2CI, IS&T

14 Objectives: Research CURVE will enhance Georgia State University research by connecting researchers, technology, and data, in one collaborative space. Researchers will have access to: vast collections of data sets for analyzing urban spaces and global connections software, hardware, and visualization and analytical applications expert staff to assist with data discovery and the innovative use of data collections and statistical and spatial applications

15 Objectives: Learning Georgia State students utilizing this space, personnel, and services will be able to: understand the types research tools and software available gain knowledge of powerful software available to them to accomplish specific goals acquire hands - on computational and spatial literacy skills; work across disciplines and make new connections outside of the classroom gain valuable experience working closely with librarians and researchers on research design, methodology, and data analysis
