2  Made up of sounds and silences  The sounds and silences are put together to form patterns of sound  The patterns are repeated, which makes rhythm

3  Rhythm sticks came to us in America from the people of Africa.  The Africans called their rhythm sticks "clave" [ Klah-Vey].  When the African people went to Latin America, they brought their music with them.  You may also hear rhythm sticks or clave instruments in Latin music or songs that people call "Salsa".

4  One team will be the pitchers and one will be the hitters. The hitters will take turns coming up to bat. The pitching team will take turns on the mound making rhythms. Using rhythm sticks, the pitcher will clap a rhythm and they batter will have to repeat. If the batter gets the rhythm right, he/she will proceed to first base. If three people get a rhythm wrong, the other team is up to bat. We will continue the game until every person gets a chance to bat.
