Plant reproduction…can be either sexual or asexual…depending on the type of plant. Sexual reproduction – hereditary information (DNA) comes from two sources (parent plants). Asexual reproduction – plants simply duplicate themselves without sharing hereditary information…therefore, offspring are exact copies of their parent.

Flowering plants = sexual reproduction Structures inside the flower produce specialized sex cells for reproduction. Wind / Insects help move sex cells (pollen) from one plant to another to complete the fertilization process.

Fertilized plants produce????? SEEDS!

Other types of plants also reproduce…but without sharing sex cells…this is Asexual reproduction. This process is called budding

Potato propagation through vegetative reproduction = Asexual reproduction

Why would plants not grow and look identical to each other? Asexual reproduction results in offspring that are genetically identical to their parent Abiotic & Biotic factors affect growth Abiotic - water, sunlight, soil Biotic – insect damage
