HOW TO TAKE A FOAM CAST IMPRESSION Align patient’s body properly. Establish right (90 degree) angle at hip, knee and ankle. Observe feet to ensure proper neutral positioning.

POSITION THE FOOT The heel should be about one inch from the back of the heel. Make sure foot placed straight on the foam and in the middle. As you can see in photo, the leg is not vertical to the floor. Have your patient sit closer to the edge of the chair to ensure the leg is 90 degrees to the floor

KEEP LEG VERTICLE AND FOOT CLOSE TO NEUTRAL Hold foot and ankle close to neutral position to prevent supination or pronaton. Instruct patient to not apply pressure. With one hand on patient’s knee and other on foot and ankle, press foot 1” to 1-1/2” into foam. Ensure that the heel and forefoot are being pressed into the foam at the same level for an accurate impression

FOAM IMPRESSION Finish impression by pressing in the toes. Lastly, you can have patient assist by applying pressure to ensure the heel and forefoot are at seated at the same level in the impression box.

FOAM IMPRESSION Inspect each impression for an uneven nature of the weight bearing surface. The heel and ball of foot should be at the same depth. Repeat procedure with patient’s other foot. Complete prescription form and forward convenient mailing box to lab. Mark areas on the finished impression that you wish to be off-loaded

ASSESS IMPRESSION Notice that the heel and forefoot are all on the same plane. The deep impression allows a good mold of the foot to be made when poured with plaster. Place crumpled up paper towel into the impression to protect foam during shipping. Place completed prescription in the box. Please contact Dia-Foot if you have any questions.
