Workshop on international standards, contemporary technologies and regional cooperation Noumea, New Caledonia, 4 – 8 February 2008 2010 World Census Programme  The United Nations Statistical Commission approved in March 2005 the initiation of the 2010 World Programme on Population and Housing Censuses covering the period 2005 to 2014.  The three essential goals are: to agree on a set of acceptable international principles and recommendations governing the conduct of a census; to facilitate countries in conducting censuses during the period 2005-2014; and to assist countries in their efforts to disseminate census results in a timely manner
