3. What is Suominet? Real time integrated atmospheric water vapor from GPS. Network of global stations taking measurements Provides total slant path water vapor retrievals Selected stations provide 3-D water vapor retrievals SuomiNet network started in 1990’s University driven, funded by NSF Water vapor is highly variable throughout the atmosphere and poorly characterized. In order to be useful for forecasting it must be available in near realtime. SuomiNet network was derived for this purpose… Improvements for short-term forecasting
