doc.: IEEE 802.11-12/1304r0 Submission Background The draft specification shall support that a STA’s AID can be reassigned for channel access management [1] AP may reassign a new AID to STA when it switches between TIM mode and non-TIM mode [2] Slide 4Yongho Seok, LG Electronics November 2012

doc.: IEEE 802.11-12/1304r0 SubmissionYongho Seok, LG Electronics November 2012 Slide 5 STA wants to change its wakeup interval Because STA’s traffic pattern or STA’s remaining battery is changed If the wakeup interval of STA is changed, AID of STA should be also changed Because each AID segment has different wakeup interval Motivation (1)

doc.: IEEE 802.11-12/1304r0 SubmissionYongho Seok, LG Electronics November 2012 Slide 6 STA wants to have the same wakeup schedule with a peer STA Because STA has buffered frames for the peer STA For having the same wakeup schedule with the peer STA, AID of STA should belong to AID segment of the peer STA Motivation (2)

doc.: IEEE 802.11-12/1304r0 SubmissionYongho Seok, LG Electronics November 2012 Slide 7 AP wants to change the group of STA for load/traffic distribution of each group Motivation (3)

doc.: IEEE 802.11-12/1304r0 SubmissionYongho Seok, LG Electronics November 2012 Slide 8 According to the discussion of TIM mode switch [2], STA’s AID may be changed when it switches TIM mode and non-TIM mode According to the discussion of service type indication [3], AP can assign appropriate AID for STAs with different service type Motivation (4)

doc.: IEEE 802.11-12/1304r0 Submission AID Switch Request frame –STA transmits AID Switch Request frame to AP AID Switch Response frame –After receiving AID Switch Request frame, AP transmits AID Switch Response frame to STA –Or, AP transmits an unsolicited AID Switch Response frame to STA Proposal Yongho Seok, LG Electronics November 2012 Slide 9 CategoryActionDialog TokenAID Request IE 1 octet variable CategoryActionDialog TokenAID Response IE 1 octet variable

doc.: IEEE 802.11-12/1304r0 SubmissionYongho Seok, LG Electronics November 2012 Slide 10 Proposal TIM Mode Switch Notify procedure –STA transmits AID Switch Request frame to AP to inform the switch between TIM and non-TIM mode –After receiving AID Switch Request frame, AP shall transmits an AID Switch Response frame to STA

doc.: IEEE 802.11-12/1304r0 SubmissionYongho Seok, LG Electronics November 2012 Slide 11 Proposal AID Request IE format –AID Request Mode: Indicate the option field of AID Request IE B0 is set to 1 when Wakeup Interval field is included B1 is set to 1 when Peer STA Address field is included B2 is set to 1 when Service Type field is included B3 is set to 1 when STA switches from TIM mode to non-TIM mode B4 is set to 1 when STA switches from non-TIM mode to TIM mode B5 – B7 are reserved –Wakeup Interval: New wakeup interval (in the unit of BI) of STA –Peer STA Address: MAC Address of peer STA for STA-to-STA communication –Service Type: New Service Type of STA Element ID LengthAID Request Mode Wakeup Interval (optional) Peer STA Address (optional) Service Type (optional) 1 octet 2 octet6 octet1 octet

doc.: IEEE 802.11-12/1304r0 SubmissionYongho Seok, LG Electronics November 2012 Slide 12 Proposal AID Response IE format –AID: New AID assigned from AP If AP doesn’t want to change AID of STA, AID field is set to the same AID. –AID Switch Count: the number of Beacon Intervals until the STA switches to the new AID –Wakeup Interval: the wakeup interval (in the unit of BI) for listening to Beacon frame having TIM segment of new AID Element ID LengthAIDAID Switch Count Wakeup Interval 1 octet 2 octet1 octet2 octet

doc.: IEEE 802.11-12/1304r0 SubmissionYongho Seok, LG Electronics November 2012 Slide 13 Conclusion In this presentation, we propose frame formats for AID Assignment Protocol –AID Switch Request frame –AID Switch Response frame STA transmits AID Switch Request frame. After receiving AID Switch Request frame, AP replies to the STA with AID Switch Response frame. Without receiving any request frame from STA, AP can transmit an unsolicited AID Switch Response frame
