Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 20082 Outline Motivation for left-right supersymmetry Higgs sector and doubly charged states Extended fermion spectra Production and decay of doubly charged higgsinos at LHC Conclusions

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 20083 Motivation Left-right model is based on the symmetry group SU(3) C X SU(2) L X SU(2) R X U(1) B-L Right-handed neutrinos included in the model Neutrino mass generation through see-saw mechanism Mohapatra, Senjanovic, PRL 44, 1980, PRD23, 1981 Gell-Mann, Ramond, Slansky, 1980 Yanagida, 1979; Glashow, 1980 Higgs sector problematic as in the SM  supersymmetrize Gauged U(1) B-L : R-parity conservation, R p =(-1) 3(B-L)+2s LSP stable and a dark matter candidate LR-model can be included in SO(10) GUT

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 20084 The left-right symmetry is broken at a scale =v R : SU(2) R X U(1) B-L U(1) Y  L because of LR-symmetry;  L,R because of anomaly cancellation The bi-doublet Higgs fields break the SU(2) L X U(1) Y U(1) em

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 20085 Possible bidoublet vevs:  1,  2  masses to quarks and leptons, contribute to gauge boson masses  1 ’,  2 ’  contribute to W L -W R mixing  choose to be zero Neutrino masses are induced by the see-saw mechanism - triplet fields with |B-L| = 2 Possible triplet vevs:  L vev small,  R vev large

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 20086 The matter fields: The most general superpotential is and the possible soft terms are

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 20087 Yukawa coupling constraints: h e  h ee <3.2 x 10 -11 GeV -2 M  -- 2 (   eee) h e  h  <2 x 10 -10 GeV -2 M  -- 2 (   e  ) h ee 2 <9.7 x 10 -6 GeV -2 M  -- 2 (Bhabha) h  2 <2.5 x 10 -5 GeV -2 M  -- 2 ((g-2)  ) h ee h  <2.0 x 10 -7 GeV -2 M  -- 2 (muonium-antimuonium) For doubly charged Higgs, from LEP m  >100 GeV for h ij >10 -7, i,j = e,  Note that the third generation couplings are restricted only by direct collider limits. Assume here that Yukawa couplings are diagonal.

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 20088 Extended ’ino’ spectra Due to the extended Higgs sector, the spectrum has additional neutral, singly charged and doubly charged higgsinos. Doubly charged higgsinos: Mass term: where

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 20089 Mass terms for the charginos: The mass eigenvalues and eigenstates are given by Six charginos:

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 200810 Eleven neutralinos: Mass terms for the charginos: The mass eigenvalues and eigenstates are given by

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 200811 Single and pair production at LHC Decay modes for two body decays (S2): If then can be a favoured mode (scalar triplet, chargino+W heavier). Thus, Three body decay, if (S3):

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 200812 Four lepton signals: Three lepton signals:

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 200813 Representative points, four lepton signal

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 200814 Four lepton signal the signal receives contributions from the pair production of both cross section is large for light doubly charged higgsinos ~10 4 fb Used cuts: with the used missing energy cut, the SM background is estimated to be ~10 -3 fb

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 200815 CalcHEP  event files PYTHIA  ISR, FSR SPA After cuts S2 S3 SPB After cuts S2 S3

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 200816 SSSF lepton pairs are peaked at lower values of  R ll than OSDF OSDF lepton pairs contain leptons originating from different doubly charged higgsinos Angular separation of lepton pairs

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 200817 S2 S3 Sharp edge: hint of a  L = 2 interaction and a doubly charged particle in the underlying model of new physics. Sharp edge in SSSF lepton pair invariant mass

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 200818 Representative point, three lepton signal

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 200819 Cross section small for SPA and SPB. SPC gives appreciable rates. Strongly depends on the composition of the lightest chargino. The dominant decay for chargino is slepton+neutrino~100%

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 200820 SPC After cuts S2 S3 The edge is seen again. Different from MSSM trilepton signal.

Physics at LHC, SplitKatri Huitu, 29 Sep 200821 Conclusion Studied pair and single production of doubly charged higgsinos in LRSUSY model. Production cross section large. Decay to leptons: signals For, SSSF dileptons have narrow spatial extension and sharp edge in invariant mass – contrary to MSSM (or UED). Testing ground for underlying SUSY model Production at Tevatron? - in favourable parameter region for the four lepton signal and suitable cuts,  ~ 6 fb for and M  =200 GeV seems possible. Production at a linear collider? - good possibilities to study wide range of masses e.g. with
