How likely is something to happen.

 When a coin is tossed, there are two possible outcomes: heads (H) or tails (T) We say the probability of a coin landing H is ½ We say the probability of a coin landing T is ½

When a single die is thrown there are six possible outcomes : 1, 2,3,4,5 & 6 The probability of any of them is 1/6.

Probability of an event happening = Number of ways it can happen Total number of outcomes

Chances of rolling a “ 4 “ with a die Number of ways it can happen : 1 (there is only one face with a “4” on it) Total number of outcomes: 6 (there are 6 faces altogether) So the probability is 1/6

Chances of rolling a 2 or a 5 with a die. Rolling a 2 is 1/6 Rolling a 5 is 1/6 So you have 2/6 chances either to roll a 2 or a 5 1/6 + 1/6 = 2/6 or 1/3 So the probability is 1/3

There are colored marbles in a bag : 4 are blue, 8 are green, 5 are red and 3 are yellow. What is the probability that a blue marble gets picked? Number of ways it can happen: 4 (there are 4 blues ) Total number of outcomes: 20 (there are 20 marbles in total) So the probability is 4/20 or 1/5 or 0.2

There are colored marbles in a bag : 4 are blue, 8 are green, 5 are red and 3 are yellow. What is the probability that a red or yellow marble gets picked? Red getting picked : 5 Yellow getting picked: 3 Probability is 8/20 or 2/5 or 0.4

3 out of 12 chances 1 out of 6 chance to pick an orange marble to roll a one

Remember that Probability is HOW LIKELY SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN.
