1 Careers with Children 1. What is the difference between growth and development? 2. What are the ages of a toddler? 3. What are the ages of a preschooler?

2 Generalizations about Development Each child develops in their own unique way Every individual usually passes through every stage of development Each stage has specific characteristics/traits Growth and Development can be modified by conditions within and outside of the body

3 Areas of Development Physical development—includes muscle coordination, growth, size and proportion. Intellectual—Ability of the brain to take in and process information. Recognizing name, know a rattle makes noise.

4 Areas of Development Emotional—The ability to recognize and understand feelings and how to respond to them appropriately (jealousy because of new baby, love another person, afraid of the dark.) Social—A child learning and discovering the expectations and rules for interacting with others (sharing toys, appropriate words)

5 Developmental Presentations Infants 0-12 months Toddlers 1-3 years Preschools 4-6 years School Age- 7 and up Physical, Emotional, Social, and Intellectual developmental areas Activity/Lesson to teach the information

6 Developmental Presentations You will be teaching Child Development to the class In groups of 3, you will research your age development and prepare a presentation or teaching task for the rest of students Need to decide how to best teach your information to the class. Group needs to have a visual aid At least a FIVE minute presentation of information (including teaching activity--such as worksheets, game that is appropriate for that age, etc.) Must be rehearsed, and everyone participate!!

8 Presentations Presentations will begin on Friday. Need Copies??? Give it to me with your name, and number of copies needed.  I will need all paperwork by Thursday to get copied
