2 WHAT IS THE FSA? THE FLORIDA STANDARDS ASSESSMENT (FSA) Will prepare Florida students for success in college, career, and in life by emphasizing analytical thinking. Measures student mastery of the standards taught. Emphasizes critical thinking. Able to compare student nationally.

3 CHANGES IN STUDENT EXPECTATIONS The Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) developed by the American Institutes for Research (AIR) demand students… maintain an increased sense of accountability toward their own learning develop a concept beyond an opinion and move to “support and evidence” think in a more conceptual, analytical and global manner utilize higher-order, critical thinking skills shift from mere memorization of terms to a deep understanding of meaning transfer skills to new experiences operate in a more student-centered environment with built in peer collaboration

4 FSA DATES AND TIMES February 29 th – April 15 th, 2016 Check with your child’s school for specific date 2 Days 2 Sessions 80 minutes per session 160 minutes total for grade level Reference sheet with conversions will be provided Reference sheet If your child is ill, keep him/her home. Students may not finish a session if they leave the school during a session, and sessions must be taken in order.

6 MATH QUESTION TYPES: Multiple Choice: Select one answer Multi-Select: More than one answer should be chosen Two Part: two questions pertaining to the same topic Open Response: type or click on numbers and symbols create an answer Hot Spot: creating items on graphs (computer-based) Graphics: interacting with the text (computer-based) Drag and Drop: drag numbers, symbols, etc., and place in appropriate area to create an answer

10 HOW CAN I SUPPORT MY CHILD? Stay involved in your child’s education. Offer positive support and feedback. Encourage your child to relax and do his or her very best. Stay connected with your child’s school and teachers. Help your child get a good night’s sleep Easy Evening and calm morning routine, lots of positive vibes

11 ELECTRONIC DEVICES If a student has an electronic device at their desk, in their pocket, or ANYWHERE they can reach it during testing or while on a break, the test will not be scored. Some examples of electronic devices are: Cell phones or smartphones Tablets Smartwatches Handheld video games MP3 players Cameras
