ASSESMENT Coursework: 60% Final Exam: 40% Quiz: 15% Homework: 15% Test-1&2: 30%

4 Mechanics of Materials
After finishing a Chapter 10 minutes duration Quizzes (15%): Team work (3 students) Each Chapter Timeline : 1 week Homework (15%): Class Activies (10%): Recorded every lecture

5 Mechanics of Materials
REFERENCE : MECHANICS OF MATERIALS by R.C. Hibbeler, 7th Edition in SI Units or any related text book (Refer to syllabus offered)

6 Mechanics of Materials
COURSE OBJECTIVES To study the relationship between various external loads applied to a deformable body and the intensity of internal forces acting within the body (stresses), as well as the deformations of the body due to the external loads.

7 Mechanics of Materials
LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of this course, students should be able to : Analyse the stress-strain relationship in various structural members subjected to a single loadings; axial load, torsion, and bending. Analyse the stress and strain transformation at a point in two dimensions and determine the principal stresses and their orientation. Solve the problems in various structural members subjected to combined loadings; a combination of axial load, torsion, and bending. Design for dimension and strength of structural members subjected to various external loads, determine their deformation, and select the suitable material for a specific engineering application.
