This is a weakness even in some schools otherwise judged to be good.’ Implications for our practice;- Reflect on your current practice. Stretch and challenge your talented & gifted!

4 The characteristics of high levels of ability in students. Scope of general knowledge. Conceptual understanding & application. Curiousity. Perceptiveness. Well developed thinking skills. High levels of geographical literacy & numeracy. Attitude towards informal learning experiences. Interaction with peers Teacher perceptions;- arrogant, impatient, lazy, opinionated, perfectionist, underachieving, rude.

5 Raising challenge in the geography classroom. Demand greater independence. Increase pace. Facilitate regular self review. Use high order questions. Use a wide range of resources. Use more advanced texts. Demand greater precision in terms of geography language. Introduce enquiry led open ended learning activities to encourage interest. Increase emphasis on creativity, problem solving. Decision making, evaluation and analysis.

7 More Questions for Talented & Gifted. Whats wrong with it? Give the disadvantages of and improvements to E.g. Intensive Farming. How come? Give possible explanations of E.g. People standing next to collapsed buildings. Whats the Question? Suggest 5 questions to the answer E.g. Shanty towns.
