6 Mechanism for Collaborative Efforts 2013-2018 Leader with Associate Award – Approximately $8.2 million allocated to grants Research Human/institutional capacity development – Associate award ceiling of $10 million Broader geographical focus and objectives 8-12 projects selected through NSF-style review using a Technical Advisory Committee

7 RFA/Proposal Development Proposals need to respond to national priorities – Reports on national priorities will be posted on SMIL website – Larger team efforts – Spanning areas of inquiry – US, African institutions? Dryland Cereals CRP? Searchable database for collaborators in Senegal, Niger and Ethiopia

8 RFA/Proposal Development September – Stakeholder priority setting in Senegal and Niger October – RFA distributed – Concept note phase 4-5 pages November – Full proposal phase of those selected (no guarantee of funding) December – Final Selection January 2014 – Project team meetings – Contracts/Funding in Q1 2014
